Number 5 is still a great position, especially in this year's draft. There is no need to move up.
The cost of moving up in the draft is Josh Anderson and Arber Wifi and Florida first pick
Number 5 + FLA first + next year 1st + Young defenceman for the 2nd overall, we take Fantilli, then in the offseason we find a way for a trade for Dubois, and with a couple of additions we can be Playoffs bound next year

Heck yeah. Trade both the Florida pick and Montreal's pick for the Ducks second overall pick. We get Fantilli, a somewhat NHL ready forward.

If Reinbacher is still around at 13th, Buffalo will absolutely take him, so don't expect him to last to the Habs 17th selection. He is a perfect match for Owen Powers at RD2 and fills perhaps the second biggest deficiency in that teams rebuild behind G2.
I doubt they’ll select a D at 5, bc they have Logan Mailloux coming out of Juniors whom is currently in OHL Finals

It will be one of smith , Michkov or Carrlson. It would be a giant fuck up to take a D when we need to focus on high end scoring.
We don't need another Dman, we have plenty, maybe not at right, but we can trade for one.
Resign Drouin and trade him to Chicago for their 1st. Chicago would also have to throw in a sweetener because Drouin for the 1st is a steal….so maybe throw in their pick next year that should be a top 3.

LOL the Habs almost always pick someone I don't expect and why their picks have been so bad.The Habs seem to do better at drafting from the second round onwards the first round is usually awful.
NO legitimacy management would never tip their hat to anyone.You can't even count out Mitchkov they will say anything to deceive the competition.Nobody right now knows who Hughes plans on taking>I am sure Hughes is listening to offers right up until the l;ast few minutes.
If I was Hughes I would stun the world and makes moves to get BOTH Smith and Carlsson.I would trade Hutson Roy Farrell etc etc anything to get TWO top prospects.
MTL does NOT need Reinbacher and should NOT put any thought int odrafting him.
Just look at the past 30 years the Habs NEVER have a top scorer and THAT is why they are consistently bad or consistently a NON cup contender don't let that one fluke year fool you they were never winning the cup.
From a Red Wings fan, I'd love to see the Canadians take Michkov and have to wait 3 to 5 years, before he plays in the NHL. Plus Montreal would have to give up something more, for a player that they won't have for a few years. Better they pick 5th and develop the players they already have on their roster.
