Too Much Money?

OK Guys, it’s time to talk about Cole Caufield and his contract negotiations with the Montréal Canadiens. I think many Habs fans assumed that Caufield would already be signed by now, by GM Kent Hughes. However, here we are, its the middle of May, and still.. Caufield has not been signed yet.. Is he asking for too much money? Lets talk!

The articles that were in the video were screenshots from Habsfanatics.com, I highly reccommend you to check out this site for further Habs News,

  1. If he is signed to more than 8 million per year than we should trade him after signing him. I love the kid but he is still just a goal scorer and a small one at that. Yes, he is a great goal scorer, but he needs to be insulated with size to make it work. Stützle is a center with decent size and can score and make plays.
Stützle deserves more money and so does Suzuki. So, If Caufield wants a significant amount more than Suzuki then he should be dealt at some point soon as we are still rebuilding. Caufield will get us a good return.

  2. I wouldn't give him 8m X 8 cause that's what jack hughes got and he's not at hughes level imo. I'd give caufield 7m X 8

  3. Here's the thing I love him most all habs fans love him. The problem is his size and now shoulder already been worked on, bet your bottom dollar this is going to be very important when he is in his 30's. So I say 8 or 8.1 max times 8 years or we will get even more then that number in a trade and man I do not want that as a fan but as a buisness, and make no mistake this is a buisness. Anything past that 8.1 he will be worth more to the buisness in a trade period, end of story. This all of coarse is in my opinion

  4. Could've sworn I heard someone in high up management talk about waiting till the start of next season to go through with the deal to generate hype for next season.

  5. I would give him the same (% of cap) as Suzuki… Suzuki was around 9.545% of the cap hit the year he signed, so Caufield would get the same percentage, adjusted with the new cap hit… so 7.97M$ if the cap hit is 83.5M$… 8.3M$ if the cap goes to 87M$… That's what I'm expecting him to sign for 8 years

  6. I think cole’s contract is settled already but are not tipping there hand in case they sign pierre luc dubois. Hugh’s is being smart to not forecast the contracts.

  7. Nobody should get more than Suzuki period. Those big contracts cripple teams ability to add good depth. Look at the leafs as a perfect example. Caufield needs to accept a team deal if he's being greedy on his first big contract that's not cool

  8. Cole deserves to get paid…..8×8 seems fair but he has to get what is best for him…….remember Nick only equals Cole goals in the last game of season. hopefully the surgery does not effect his game but he is young and resilient so he will be ok……PLD and Lefrenierre both need to be passed over….and Smith or the Slovak seems like my favs 2 b drafted by Montreal.

  9. I would sign hum for 9M for eight years, it would still a better contract than horvat at 8M

  10. Why is it so important for caufield (and his agent) to be paid more than Suzuki? I mean, give me a break. I would give him 6.5 to 7M a year. And the maximum would be 7.5 a year… but for the sake of the team in long term, the lower the better…

  11. Okay I honestly don’t even care if anyone is reading this. Hockey Junkie and GK you the man. Caufield is proven, why don’t we give this guy a top loaded contract for the next 2-3 years while our team is still bad and can afford it… then we will have him long term for cheap which will also set a precedent. Look at Carolina offer sheeting KK. If you didn’t think kk had potential while being paid 6 mill for ONE YEAR, you were a salty habs fan. That’s all I gotta say. Think about the big picture folks, he’s like 23 years old.

  12. I have a blank jersey ready to fill it out with the Stanley Cup patch from 2021 (en Francais) for him. But, I just want to make sure.

  13. How on earth would Caufield want Stutzle money? Stutzle has a 91pt season at the age of 21?? And he's 6ft. I'll take Stutzle at 9m per season rather than Caufield at 8
