Treliving/Flames could have signed Tkachuk longterm (6 to 8yrs) after his ELC – he was willing – but instead they choose to do a bridge deal to keep Frolik.
They ended up trading Frolik anyway 5 months later.
Flames in a nutshell: think short term; get burned longterm.
A fundamental rule of the cap era is to lock up your elite talent for as long as possible and worry about the “depth” later or you’ll end up regretting it. Hopefully the new management has learned from the mistakes of the last one.

McJesus has this locked up, but I’m happy for Chucky to get the nod. He’s played really well this year. I’m still upset that it didn’t work out and he didn’t stay, but hey, I’m just a dude sitting on a couch.

McDavid was legendary but it think the Oilers would make the playoffs without him.
