   I was hoping Larkin wasn't going to resign in Detroit and the Canes could find a way to get him but he's locked up now. He would fit in perfect in Carolina

   Friedman says surprised jets didn't trade Stanley and thinks they are trying get a defenceman.

   gostisbehere is a highly underrated defenseman. The Hurricanes are a dangerous team and the one team that is the biggest threat to the Bruins cup run.

   Burns actually lost his spot on the top powerplay to Skjei after mid-December. Dude for some reason just does not function well on the top unit, likely due to not being very mobile at moving the puck. Skjei did fairly weel there but his hot streak has cooled off since so PP1 is Ghost's spot to lose right now, nothing but lots of runway for him.

    Canes had like 10mil before they brought in Puljujarvi and Gostisbehere. Both those guys are UFA's. So there's still ~3mil to bring someone in if there's no cap magic involved.

    Canes have Aho, KK, Staal, Stastny, Stepan, Martinook, Jarvis and Necas that all play or can play Centre. KK has been heating up and playing great but I don't expect anyone who doesn't watch the Canes to know that. Stastny and Stepan have serviced the fourth line all year well and there's depth there incase of injuries, including in the minors. Would be great to get at 2C in Carolina but don't discount the fact that our 3rd line is basically a 2nd line in terms of shut down ability and production this year. Martinook-J Staal-Fast has been beast.

    Yes Carolina needs a forward but it's really a C that they need. I'm keeping my eyes on Kevin Hayes to see if anything happens there. It's also apparent to me from watching this team and following it closely that mgmt is worried about losing guys in a deal, so Jarvis is off the table. That limited the Canes ability to entice a bigger deal. Sometimes you can't control what other teams are offering, the relationships between GM's or a player's preference in location. Canes were in on all the big players so I'm not disappointed.. sometimes you just don't land the trades you want.

    Biggest needs going into the deadline are offense (replace Patches as best as you can) and depth D that can produce on special teams. They did both of those and now can focus on a 2C. Even if they don't land a 2C, every team except Boston was stocking up to chase the Canes so the situation is less dire in Raleigh to add at the expense of the future or to add guys that will totally throw the chemistry off. They tend to shop for a certain mold of player under Brind'Amour.
