Happy Toronto Maple Leafs Elimination Day! Hunter starts the show off with a BANG as the GM search in Pittsburgh is about to get VERY interesting. Why? Kyle Dubas has just been eliminated, and there’s no guarantee the Maple Leafs will bring him back. Hunter dives into how soon Fenway Sports Group could look to talk to him as they’re reportedly already done with their first round of interviews. He looks at how Dubas would be an upgrade over the last regime (Who wouldn’t?) before discussing how he still has some faults, as any GM does. He dives into his positives and negatives as a GM while also wondering if FSG would give him total autonomy of the roster. Hunter discusses why that might not be the best idea given some of the mistakes he has made in Toronto and gives his hope of what a front office would look like if Dubas is the hire. After that, he continued the season reviews with Kris Letang and why he still had a good season despite everything he went through. He then analyzes what he expects from him next season before ending the show with some more World Championship and playoff talk.

I honestly would love dubas.
I'm not sure if Dubas is the best choice or not. Maybe Tulsky, Botteril, Darche or whoever would be better. I don't know. But after Hextall, almost anyone would be a MASSIVE upgrade. I certainly wouldn't be disappointed if Dubas was the next GM.
Lots of good candidates this time. I'd even be open to Chayka. Looked at his trade and drafting history and it's pretty good.
Getting the right President will be important too.
I was honestly rooting for the Leafs to lose because looking at the potential candidates I really think Dubas is the best free agent GM. The Leafs team he built was actually pretty stacked, they just severely underperformed, especially their stars.
i don’t want dubas he’s all hype
I guarantee you immediately after The Panthers won in OT, Dave Beeston and Kevin Acklin called John Henry and Tom Werner and were like, it's go time now we have our guy.
I do wonder how fast this will move, there is no question, they want to talk to Kyle Dubas and I know they will probably be reaching out to the Leafs immediately, unless Toronto cuts ties with Dubas and Sheldon Keefe over the next few days.
This got really interesting now.
I was in Kindergarden the last time The Panthers made the Eastern Conference Finals, so I am right there with you Hunter lol and ironically that Eastern Conference Finals was against The Penguins. If I am correct, it was the year that Mario and Jagr each had 60 goals and The Penguins were stonewalled in that conference finals by John Vanbiesbrouck.
I think also something I wonder in Toronto with the personnel moves they made how much of it was Kyle Dubas and how much of it was Brendan Shanahan?
I remember when the Panthers put out the Penguins in the playoffs. It sucked so bad.
I picked Devils and Leafs too!
Marty Straka f'd the pens in 1996 and Panthers beat us
