CLAUDE GIROUX CAME HOME!
Ross Levitan and Brandon Piller are still riding high after yesterday’s Claude Giroux signing, but it ultimately came at a price. Later on Wednesday, the Sens traded Connor Brown to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a 2nd round draft pick in 2024. We react to that move, look at potential line combinations and wonder how soon Pierre Dorion could turn that pick (+) into a legitimate top-4 NHL defenceman. Plus, we discuss some minor league signings for Belleville and touch on our league-wide Winners and Losers from Day One of Free Agency.

Hopefully Zaitsev is the next to go
Need some depth in Belleville down the middle only Grieg, kastelic, wedman signed to play in Belleville
Connor Brown will be missed. He never disappointed. Why do we get rid of guys who Never Disappoint? Solid guys like….Stone, Pageau, C. Brown. They are always worth it.
I’ll miss Brown terribly. But it was a necessary move, as everyone knows, he plans on going to free-agency next Summer.
But, man. I wanted so bad to see a third line of Formenton Pinto and Brown. That would have been so tasty. But Joseph can play on his off wing, and this way he isn’t demoted to a fourth line role.
DeBrincat Stü Giroux
Tkachuk Norris Bath
Formenton Pinto Joseph
Kelly Gambrell Watson
Kastelic
That’s still really good. Kastelic and Gambrell can maybe split games. See who’s hot. And there are always injuries. But hopefully not much this year. 🤞
I wonder if with the additions/changes the Sens have made this week… would Brown have been more willing now to sign that extension?
Honestly I think it's more important to get rid of Zaitsev than to add a RD. I don't like it, but Sanderson could play with Hamonic or Holden or even Brannstrom. Hamonic was actually pretty good down the stretch, but Zaitsev has got to go. To do that and also get a top 4 D will be costly, our cupboards will certainly be drained
I think the sens should target a veteran 4C for a 1-year deal if possible. I don’t want Gambrell to play NHL games next year, and it would give Kasty some friendly competition
If they don't sign a RHD, I don't know how the sens could play their best D-men without moving Branny to the right side. Although I like Sanderson with the best RHD in Zub, I really think they brought in Hamonic for Sanderson.
Chabot – Zub
Sanderson – Hamonic
Holden – Branny (Branny – Holden)
Zaitsev (roster + money retained) + Branny (1st rnd propect) + 2nd/1st Rounder 2024 for a defensive/transition d-man might be asking too much of Dorion but a fan can hope.
Sneaky Line combos that could work:
Chabot – Hamonic
Branny – Zub
Sanderson – Holden
It was funny that Dorian called Giroux Conner to start the press conference
Bring back the O jersey
C. Brown and Formy were the dynamic duo for the sens PK. I wish we could have kept Brown or at least fetched a slightly better return. Big time stick taps to him though.
This just in; it’s official, Josh Norris signs for 8years 63.6M (7.95M AAV) !!!
Yet trading with TO is okay? What was Brock Faber in his draft, not to forget Mr Debrincat?
now that redden is behind the scenes, i bet you see some interviews while the team is on their exercise bikes again!….lol
Sens have adopted the Vegas model of how you treat your players like Paul and Brown.
Ottawa still needs to sign 3 more forwards. They only have 9 forwards signed after signing Norris. So far Formenton, and Joseph aren't signed. Of course they have Pinto that still shows as he's LTIR. There's still a lot of questions if they will bring Thompson or JBD up as they are right shot Ds. But what would happen to either 3 they have? Zaitsev has a NTC in place, Hamonic and Zub don't. I doubt they'll move Zub. 11.6 million cap space could be down to 5 million with Formenton, Joseph and Brannstrom signings. Sens could be in trouble next year if they go too crazy with long terms. Stutzle and Debrincat are RFAs next year.
