Who will the Montreal Canadiens select at 5th overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft?

Im pretty sure the habs will select Benson if Smith isnt available cause Michkov is too big of a risk when theres a lot of other good players. Back checking ,heart and compete thats how you win cups.
the top 5 could ended #1 last year if you ask me. No problem with the Pick they will make IF they done they're dilligent job,i trust HuGo,even tho i'm not a Russian fan.
If they take a D man,he better be a #1 elite one,and i doubt David Reinbacher is that guy.

Ovechkin is the same way to be honest he floats around the ice and end up with the puck and explodes and I’m sure Washington isn’t complaining about having a player like Ovechkin and I’m sure Montreal won’t either and to be honest prospect wise Montreal is in a way better place the Washington was when they got Ovechkin and I think Montreal will win one way sooner then 13 years especially with Mitchkov and Kaprizov doesn’t have a high compete level but he’s so good that it doesn’t matter as long as you surround a player like that with what Montreal has lots of players that compete… it will work out fine
San Jose or Columbus are not stupid, they will do there homework. If they can get michkov to play on the nhl. They will draft him. If they don't , it"s cause he ain't ever playing on the NHL. Habs should order the 5th and Florida 1st to try to get Fantilli.
Great job guys! You just made this draft even more intriguing. Thank you for opening our eyes to the talents of Benson, and Leonard. Most definitely the Habs will be a better team after drafting 5th this year.
What do you think of Carlsson if he happens to drop? CBJ would have to take Smith and then SJ swing for Michkov, so the stars would have to align, but if he’s there..
I wouldn't sleep on Benson. The kid is playing in the WHL right now and he's in the playoffs. He has more points than Savoie who was drafted 9 last year. If the Canadians don't draft Michkov and Smith, Carlsson are taken, in my opinion Benson is the better option than Dvorsky.
If Michkov shows up at the combine and the draft, he's keen to play in the NHL. I think the Habs will draft him if Will Smith isn't available.

My vote is Zach Benson. Being in Alberta and getting a chance to see him play live he really impressed me. That compete level you talk about isn’t just in big games from him. On a Tuesday night in the 12th game of the season in a place like Lethbridge or Red Deer, he still plays like it’s the playoffs or the World Juniors. That’s how I judge a players compete level. Then Benson has another gear after that in the Playoffs.

imo the habs have almost what they need to win.
teams seem to need a solid 5/6 top 6.
with a guy that can swap in from the third line to add energy.
they also need a solid top 4 on d.
and a guy in the net.

suzuki/dach/caufield/kinda missing two guys there
matheson and guhle perhaps barron or harris could be a third…but cant have them 3/4 because they shoot left.so would need another 6 foot+ 220' + right,puck moving d to fill the 4 slot.im thinking mailloux could be the 4th.but hes a point man not a puck mover.maybe he can pair with matheson . guhle would need a rhd to lay the body.

imo the habs have had a problem with a lack of first liners for quite awile.theyve made up for it by having second liners fill the roster.
and overpaid third liners that,looked like they could play second.
they need a first liner and a second.if drouin sticks around he can play with dach.and anderson.they still would need a first liner.
but if they lets say traded that 5th pick for pld….
it could be pld,dach and anderson/suzuki caufield.
the habs need first pair and first trio guys to push down players to the second line.where they should be.would suzuki or caufield be first liners on any cup contenders? no.
