Can someone that has their ref cert explain how this isnā€™t a penalty? Or is Peeler just losing his mind since he got fired.

  2. Mrinked91

Between this and Staal’s blatant elbow to Marner at the end of the 3rd….

I mean just off the top of my head on the Staal play.

    1. Interference

    2. Elbowing

    3. Intent to injury? (clearly aimed high towards head)

  3. ualbertathrowaway-

One of the most blatant holding the stick Iā€™ve ever seen.

  4. UnderstandingDuel

That and the goal that was refused makes me think that this game was rigged. Not a good look.

  5. W3ttyFap

Oh look another shining example of gudas being a classy, upstanding citizen. /s

  6. starlitewalker5

    It’s probably a penalty
but that is not why Toronto lost the series

  7. Negative-Affect-6819

Shitty former NHL ref bringing his bad takes from
    The ice to the internet

  8. LunarMoon2001

Peel is just a bitter old man who is angry he got properly fired.

  9. slevin07rocket

    Itā€™s a clear penalty.

1 – league should have more things reviewable

2 – leafs own fault for getting down 3-0, where a bad call could sink them. They got a lucky bounce off ref the previous game.

3 – in most leagues the bigger fanbase/city seemingly gets favourable calls. In the nhl, thatā€™s not the case with the leafs.

  10. ChocklateshipCookie

Mark asking probably the worst source of information on officiating.

  11. Badgerdont

I hate the Leafs but they got fucked twice in that game, this was a clear holding the stick penalty and the disallowed goal was clearly over the line.

  12. Skookummm

From this angle it looks exactly like a penalty, but I didnā€™t see it until now, likely the refs wouldnā€™t have saw it either.

  13. H8ersAlwaysH8

Leagues a joke. No wonder NHL canā€™t get more fans. No one likes the circus anymore.

  14. Falconflyer75

So a leaf goal gets overturned because the ref was ā€œgoingā€ to blow his whistle, meantime this is considered a clean goal?

  15. OatmealSchmoatmeal

Itā€™s pretty obvious that there was some kind of fix in here. The only other explanation is that the referees really are that incompetent. These are world class refs, this doesnā€™t happen.

    Edit: spelling

  16. goodspellwr

*Is this a penalty?* – Yes

*Was this a penalty?* – No, Mark. It was not.

  17. hockeyguy26er

Holding the stick is pretty cut and dry. Clearly another case of the refs not feeling like calling a penalty.. or just not paying attention like always.

  18. Woodrovski

Leafs got shafted on that goal. Clear cut penalty but cause a goal went in they let it go. Bullshit decision

  19. GroceryStickDivider

The called delay of game in OT when the puck went over the boards but than let this slide..

  20. Navy_Canuck

In full speed it looked more like their sticks got locked together and they were battling for position. It’s also OT in the playoffs, ain’t nothing being called unless it’s blatantly obvious and in full speed at ice level you can see how a ref isn’t gonna make that call, though I do agree it’s a penalty.

  21. dark12striker

Not saying the league is rigged, but with these non-calls…hit from behind =suspension , hit from behind breaks a neck = nothing.

Refs should enforce all rules playoff or no playoffs. If a call gets missed should be able to revise call, like in this instance… Don’t matter any hit from behind should be 4 games suspension.

  22. lylelanley-

After that Justin Holl pick that disallowed a JT goal from last year, Iā€™m fucking done with this shit

  23. ThatGuy8188

    Everyone knows itā€™s a penalty.

The issue people have is the inconsistency with calls.

If Brodie gets a holding call which was clearly a lot less impactful than this play in the game before. This should be a penalty as well, all day every day.

  24. smilecrocodile1

He clearly grabs the stick, there is no disputing that. But we also have the benefit of slow motion replay. The refs have to call this in real time. If nobody watching on TV noticed it, then I really can’t blame the refs for not seeing it either. I imagine holding/holding the stick is one penalty players get away with the most because of how quickly it can be done and how easy it is to hide it from an official.

  25. justinkredabul

Hereā€™s the real question, in real time. Not this super slow mo BS every one is posting, weā€™re the refs behind the play? It was a fast transition. Depending on the angle of the ref it could look like a hold. It could look like Gudas is pushing the stick out from between his legs too. Either way, it would have been a super weak call. He had his hand on the stick for a second, and itā€™s obvious heā€™s pushing it away from his body. Itā€™s more incidental than anything.

  26. witwar101

What the fuck does tim peel know about calling a fair hockey game

  27. rollsoftape

Never forget, they didn’t hesitate to call Holl on a light pick in game 7 last year. But can’t call this fucking ogre on anything.
