  1. I like this trade. I dont know much about Highmore, but Gaudette seemed to not have the best 2 way play and didnt really fit well into the roster imo.

  2. Pearson had a bad season too. I think Gaudette might have had a better chance of bouncing back next year.

  3. Remember when Jim traded for Tyler Motte, some said the same about Motte so you never know, Highmore could work out or not it is what it is

  4. Wow, not sure what to say anymore. If Benning really wanted to trade him, do a package deal with Virtanen and get a better return.

  5. I have some mixed feeling about this trade but I am willing to give Benning the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he sees something in Highmore. I'm not familiar enough with Highmore to say the Canucks got good or bad value in return. Only time will tell. Thanks PP!

  6. Why trade a guy who's only semi-recently started to show signs of being a solid player for your team and get a nobody fringe 4th liner? I just don't understand the upside at all but maybe I'm being pessimistic. This whole management team makes no sense to me and this is just another headscratcher. For every good move like the Demko contract there are 3 more where you go…wait what?

  7. Well Gaudette got embarassed defensively this season and his faceoffs are not good at all. He had zero points in the playoffs. When a team completely implodes in a season you have to make changes to the roster to shake things up… but you can throw that out the window because they rewarded Pearson for having a terrible season on a contract year. Brutal. But ya shopping Gaudette is selling low for sure but thank god Aquibenning didn't sell low with Boeser which I'm sure almost happened. Fans could feel the waters rising on Boeser lol.

The two brainiacs in charge are allergic to draft picks and I sense that's due to the impatient inheritance billionaire who can't see past his own hand and into tomorrow. I don't like Benning but it's not his fault. At the end of the day I think Green is not a fan of Gaudette and Benning probably shares that sentiment. He'll score a few goals against the Canucks for sure but no big whoop. Totally agree they should have picked up a pick.

  8. I agree this trade is very 'meh' if not for the fact that Canucks fans generally love Gaudette. I like him too but truthfully you are totally correct – it's a lateral move. My only positive thought is that IF Highmore is more responsible defensively than Gaudette then I'll be happier with this trade as really you need your bottom 6 guys to be solid in their own end before expecting them to contribute offensively.
As you said, Benning hasn't acquired a single draft pick in his time & I think this trade just reinforces the feeling that Benning isn't the best at leveraging assets – even weaker ones. A draft pick even to use as a sweetener or in an expansion draft negotiation would have been far more beneficial.

For those who see this as a signal of intention to re-sign Sutter, I actually don't think that would be the end of the world, but only if we end up giving him no more than the 1.5mil we would have expected Gaudette to get. However, do we think that's something JB can do? I'm not so sure…

  9. Gaudette is garbage. Beloved for no reason. Best thing about him is his celly's and his warzone stats. Guy can't make plays or defend or win faceoffs. Guy is a plug, but canucks fans overvalued him for some reason. Guy also potentially caused covid on the team.

  10. Not saying Gaudette is any where near Taylor Halls level but the trade is like the Larson trade. You do not regress as bad as Adam and then throw the guy away on a huge question mark. This is a huge gamble. I think it made the team weaker than it already is. The Canucks problems are not the young guys.

  11. Bad trade for the Canucks. Selling super low, yes hes an RFA. we dont have to Qualify him, we can circle back and sign him for league minimum if we want because Gaudette is having a bad season so he has absolutely no leverage for a new contract. Next year he can be just as bad and we can waive him and send him to the minors or he can go back to 2019-20 form. But we traded him for basically a minor league player. Draft Pick > Gaudette > Highmore. Tired of theses trades/signings that are obvious losses where we hope pan out to be wins.

  12. *shakes head. Don't know if you remember but I once said Gauds would break out on another team…maybe we do receive another motter as others have said. Oh BTW I watched Highmore play for the saint john seadogs against guess who ? The Bathurst titans 😉🤣

  13. The bottom 6 on this team is stale it needs some new faces and cheap contracts on it and this helps both gaudette is the better player but he proboly wants 1.5 2 mil next year and he is realistically only bottom 6 on this team if we're good better to just move on get something and sign someone else with the spare money
