Game 7 between the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils saw one of the biggest hits of the NHL Playoffs. Rangers captain Jacob Trouba absolutely levelled devils forward Timo Meier & it caused a debate on whether or not this type of hit should be legal.
According to the rulebook, it was deemed a clean hit & there was no penalty on the play.. but there was direct contact to the head? We break down the hit & game in this video.

I thought I mentioned this but it's worth noting that there was no penalty on this play as it was a legal check.
I saw a lot of people questioning whether or not a headshot like this should be legal despite the current rulebook of the NHL.. but in my opinion.. I think that comes with the territory of playing hockey. When you step on the ice, you accept the consequences of playing the game. Just like how UFC fighters accept the consequences when they step into the octagon.
Meier got caught with his head down & paid the price.
What's your opinion on the whole thing??
Knuckle dragging thugs like Jacob Trouba and Tom Wilson should be permanently banned from the game. Both are talentless hacks that lace up their skates every night with the intent to injure skilled players.
Yet, the same folks saying the Kraken’s Eberle should have resulted in a 5+ game suspension? Don’t get the contradiction in perspective.
100% clean hit
As a Devils fan, he went right on the tracks with his head down that’s all on him
I'm a devil's fan it was a clean hit and I watched Scott Stevens do this on a daily basis I learned in hockey at age 9 to always keep your head up .and the lack of these hits is the reason hockey is not as popular as it was in the 80s and 90s.
Just to let the rangers fans know 8pm tonite on espn
Hell no
Clean hit
Yes without a doubt. I know in hockey you’re suppose to keep your head up. But just because someone has their head down doesn’t mean you should try and end their career. Don’t go full bore. He did it because he was loosing he was a poor sport. Hit was unnecessary and had other motives, mainly to hurt. But what goes around comes around. I’ve seen trouba get hit and he couldn’t even walk, so
No. Its a good hit and makes the game what it is. Better than the rest
CLEAN HIT! The day this is a penalty is the day I start watching soccer.
Nah the day this kind of thing is gone is the day im completely done with the nhl.
Trouba gives clean checks…nothing to see here.
It will take a death before these are removed.
I think they should play flag football style hockey. 2 mins for touching 5 mins for pushing and a game misconduct for being mean cuz you know feelings
Clean, this is one heck of a hockey play.
Clean as a whistle, keep the lid up. That's how I played, and that's how I gave and took hits, mostly 😉
NOT a dirty hit
They say keep your head up for a reason. I know this video is old but me and my dad were debating this last night. Clean hit.
