You forget that new owners have to deal with layers of bureaucracy and Ottawa is one of the worst on the planet!
DJ Smith getting another year is criminal. "But the injuries!". Spoiler alert but get used to Josh Norris getting injured. And of course the defense has been awful under him and his obsession with the likes of Zaitsev is absurd. It's time to go. I don't care that they ended the season well when they spent the first 50+ being garbage
Stop it with that established goalies. You both kept talking about it and we all know what Lehner and Gustavsson did when they left. Ottawa's play is not good for goalies. Coach needs to go because they need to have a better D game to help their goalies. So doesn't matter if they got the best goalie in the league, he'll look like crap with the style of play Ottawa uses.
I think what the Sens are missing most from coaching is discipline. The soft little flip passes they all do, the diving plays, the flybys past the other team's net on odd man rushes, and the horrible efforts on the road are all things that come from a lack of discipline.
I believe we need a new coach. I am okay if DJ starts the season with the team, but I would give him until the end of November or a 3+ losing streak before deciding to let him go or not. I think he needs to figure out how to spread out scoring on this team. When the team brought in Greig and split up the top 6 through the top 9, the team was winning games and then 1 loss and DJ went back to his original lines. That to me, does not make sense. Obviously Greig is not the reason for the winning streak (still a great player), but spreading out the offence like that makes it a lot harder for teams to shut down the Sens.
The Sens biggest problem was their depth, which is more of a PD issue then DJ. But DJ knows who he has and its his job to make sure he puts the best line out 82 games. I liked seeing a line Tkachuk-Timmy-Joseph, they seemed very productive. Not saying Joseph is a RW1, but he didn't hurt anyone being there. Having Pinto and Batherson (I think Brass too) on the 3rd line is a great threat to have that teams will find difficult to match up against.
