This makes today better from a Leafs perspective. If he sets the tone by taking not just a reasonable contract, but a discount then I believe the rest will follow. At that point you can build a proper supporting cast. If he wants 13-14M then this is just talk.

Agree with the other comments of how serious are you about winning. Taking 9.5 or 10 shows you’re actually committed to the team and to winning. I know that’s only 3-4 actual take home after all the expenses; but you’re either here to win or not.
This is where the salary cap sucks; MLSE makes a ton of money and I’m for the players taking as much of that as possible, but because of the cap MLSE will make more profit.
