Ours is too, depending on AAV Auston

Can’t really take anything CJ says today as fact.

  3. This makes today better from a Leafs perspective. If he sets the tone by taking not just a reasonable contract, but a discount then I believe the rest will follow. At that point you can build a proper supporting cast. If he wants 13-14M then this is just talk.

Great move by him. Now if he’s not signed right away people look to the FO instead of hin

Good – though I wonder if that’s still the case if for example Marners gets traded. Marner gets a NMC on July 1, the same day Matthews is eligible to re-sign. So it’s not like we can sign Matthews then trade Marner later (at least not easily).

Take 11M so we can build a functioning team around you then.

  7. Please god I don’t want Matthews gone. Take a little less, play a little harder.

Time to find out how serious he is about winning here.

He needs to get his wrist fixed. Sign the deal, get surgery or w/e

All four Coyotes fans punching air rn

Agree with the other comments of how serious are you about winning. Taking 9.5 or 10 shows you’re actually committed to the team and to winning. I know that’s only 3-4 actual take home after all the expenses; but you’re either here to win or not.

This is where the salary cap sucks; MLSE makes a ton of money and I’m for the players taking as much of that as possible, but because of the cap MLSE will make more profit.

I doubt he takes a pay cut. A discount would be signing for 10 or 11. Dubas fucked it by caving and giving him more than that already. If he comes in at 12 we’ll be lucky. Don’t know how much of a “discount” we’ll be getting lmfao my guess is one at all

He’s not taking fucking 10 million you guys. That’s wholly unrealistic.
Let’s set our sights on that 12.5 million number. That would still be a good deal and is probably attainable if he doesn’t want top dollar

Matthews is here to stay, Tavares is here to stay, Reilly is here to stay, Nylander is already in Sweden (see ya) and Marner will be St Louis

If he wants to take the same or less money then great

If he wants a raise I’d rather gamble on mcdavid leaving edmonton

  16. EddyMcDee

Would be nice if he pulled a Crosby and took the same AAV

Anyone actually listen to the question and answer?

He didn’t add that he wanted to get it done before next season.

The reporter fed that to him and he answered it in a very politically correct way.

“Do you want to be here long term”

“How important is it for you to get it done before the season”

“Its um, yeah I think its important, but it will work itself out in the end”.

  18. latenitehero

He crumbles under playoff pressure in Toronto. Unpopular opinion but we need to move on from him. He might play better in Arizona with no pressure.

  19. NickRobertson89

It’s obvious he ends up injured by the time the playoffs come around every year. He needs to be load managed during the season so he’s healthy for next playoffs. Pay the man we need to build around him not without him. We know what he can do when he’s healthy and anyone shitting on him for this season when he clearly didn’t have his shot right is hilarious

  20. whosoulie

    I think he gets a 12.634M AAV x 3 years deal

  21. LeafsFan8406

LOL @ the number of people casually shitting on Matthews …gtfo

  22. tenny80

They need to trade him before he walks for nothing
