I return to this video once a year to pay my respect. It’s hard seeing talent like this taken in such a brutal way… But man what a way to go out. 53 years old, still doing what you love and at the highest level. To this day I still wonder why they had NASCAR PR break the news. Maybe the NHL higher-ups were just too messed up about it all.. I know I was. I took the rest of the week off using my only vacation time for the entire year because I couldn’t stand the thought of crying so hard in public. I’m just glad that this incident led to the boards being replaced with reinforced steel. Thankfully, every tragedy leads to a safer experience for all. It’s just too bad this tragedy didn’t happen sooner and to someone else to prevent this tragedy.
