Radko Gudas interference/holding the stick on OT winner, no call – Have your say!

Radko Gudas certainly cleared the lane for Nick Cousins to score the overtime winner that eliminated the Toronto Maple Leafs from the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Brilliant play, blatant penalties, or both? Tough Call will be reviewing the incident. Have your say!

  1. This let them play ideas has been and will be on ongoing joke in pro sports. The crap teams are given a chance to compete when they should be illiminated in four games.

  2. Calls get missed on both sides. It happens. Toronto never should have been down 3-1 in the first place.

  3. If they can review an offside when a goal is scored 3+ minutes after the infraction and take away the goal (worst rule in hockey and all of sports) then they can do the same with this type of play.

  4. Its Unbelievable that nobody on the leafs challenged the goal. Sheldon Keefe should have at least talked to the ref about it. I hope he is gone next year

  5. NO ONE IS MENTIONING THE NO CALL PENALTY AGAINST STAHL FOR ELBOWING MARNER IN THE FACE …! WTF !!

  6. This is a strange play.
    – Gudas streaking down and being a factor in an OT series winner…?!?
    – 100% holding the stick and should have been called (see other comments about "playoffs", "consistency", and positively reinforcing player behaviour by not calling easy stuff). Though it didn't help, it's likely that Gudas actually kept the defender closer to the play by holding him there. Without the hold the defender probably slides to the goal line completely out of the play.
    – I can only surmise the official is thinking Gudas is trying to get the defender's stick off his can, but that way more than a Missiissippi with his hand on there.

Only seeing this video of it, not one on-ice Leaf seems to be complaining (especially Jarnkrok). So either they thought it was a normal play and the ref got it right, or they had truly given up. That's the tough call. Anyway, just 2 more cents thrown in the laundry.

  7. The absolute travesty of the NHL officiating decides the outcome of many games. If anyone watched the Vegas at Oiler game last night, a high stick that cut Ekhom wasn't called, should have been a 4 minute penalty but no call. This league is a joke and I'm done with it. Let the suckers buy the bling and ridiculas prices for tickets. Its rigged, calls and no calls at critical points in the game decide the outcome.

  8. Not a leafs fan, my team didn't even make the playoffs, but the NHL seems to be trying its best to delegitimize itself as a sport this year between the All Star Game and how inconsistent the calls are in the playoffs. A fight resulting from a malicious after the play two handed overhead slash like ive never seen before are met wuth equal suspensions. A series ending goal allowed because of a blatant penalty, another teams playoffs ending because 'inconclusice evidence' on a very obviously in the net puck, the nhl saying 'follow through' is legal on high sticking incidents when an oiler is gushing blood from under his eye, but every other incidental follow through i've seen this year has been called high sticking, regardless of intention.

This isn't a sport anymore, its a gongshow. Fire Bettman like we should have decades ago. He is destroying our sport. It isn't sport if the rules are made up on the spot 90% of the time

  9. NHL should be embarrassed at the reffing. Sadly their not…..I'm done watching hockey for this season as should every Canadian team fan.

  10. I thought I was going crazy when it happened. None of the players, coaching staff or broadcast mentioned it. That is very much a penalty. Tripping and holding the stick

  11. I have a question. Do you have to be a whiner to become a Leafs fan? Or does being a Leafs fan make you a whiner? 🤔

  12. The embarassment of the NHL has been officiating for the last 3-5 years and its been progressively getting worse. In every fucking series. Its a farce and making the NHL incredibly difficult to watch.

  13. The key was where was the ref and the ref was in the right place to see that. Def. should have been a call. No goal and I can't stand the leafs.

  14. Yet every Leaf fan on this board would love Gudas, Tkachuk, Tom Wilson, Josh Anderson on the Leafs but hate them otherwise – because they smash the Leafs with zero response. Dubas must go.

  15. And the Academy award goes to the Toronto Maple leafs fan base. For the best crying scene in a series! Go panthers

  16. Wow! Its not why we lost but that is so obviously holding the stick. I have heard the ridiculous arguement that happens 20 times a game. Well, so what!? Then call it 20 times a game. Then on top of that he mocks the goaltender. And yes it was a mock. It's to bad.

  17. Boo hoo the leafs suck get it over it bro .they lost this series them selfs not the reffs maybe fire your core 4 or stop complaininv thanks

  18. the NHL must allow all controversial incidents to be review including the elbow on Marner by Stall, the holding the stick on that goal and etc. etc, Leafs fans have a legit complaint against NHL, it`s fucking rigged. Start hitting the refs hard on ice and make it look like an accident, send them into early retirement on a regular basis, maybe the NHL will start calling the games fair.

  19. It seems interference is going to be highly discretionary call which will lead to more player and fan frustrations. Rule 56 of the NHL Rulebook is pretty clear on what is interference. The "reverse hit" before puck possession is established needs clarification as well. The easiest determination is Gudas's character. To cheat and then scream in the goalies face in celebration, easy to know this dudes level of integrity.

  20. Calls get missed on all sides. Don't get your team down 3-0, and the missed calls are less likely to end your series.

  21. Easy call 2 minutes for holding the stick, he prevented the Dman from stick checking the puck carrier. Or interference take your pick. They called that penalty in the other game. The leafs have not been getting calls for several years now. This needs to be looked at is there a there there. I think it needs to be looked at.

  22. Anyone stating that "Officials won't call anything because it's the playoffs" are an absolute joke, rules are rules and they don't change just because they playoffs started. When you don't obey the rules you get penalized end of story. No one in any game, or any team in any series, should be aloud to just do anything they want that goes against the rules with no consequences. Florida should defiantly have gotten a interference penalty in OT, especially because that's a curtail play that lead to a goal, ending the Leaf's season. If you did not clearly see the Leaf's defender was not able to play his position properly because Gudas was aloud to hold his stick, ultimately allowing Cousins to get a clear shot at the net and scoring to win the game. The Officials not calling that just shows how much this leagues officials are a bunch of jokes, and it's embracing and just makes them look pathetic, and it also does not show well for the NHL either. Not only that Gudas than decided to scream in Woll's face afterwards, showing how low of class he truly has.

  23. There's a million of these instances over the course of the year, and when the playoffs start, it gets worse, and if players are quick, they get away with it, which creates an environment where if you can cheat but get away with it, you should. Which I don't think anyone wants. The time has come for the league to understand the refs can't do their job, and even if they could, it seems like they have biases and this odd mechanism for calling penalties that has little to do with penalties, and more to do with if a team "deserves" it, or if its their turn.

  24. Imagine if say the NBA would say fuck it it’s playoffs and we aren’t calling any fouls in the 4th quarter. There would be outrage. Just call the damn game by the book and that’s it
