The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Edmonton Oilers 5-2 last night to eliminate Edmonton and advance to the Western Conference Final. Jonathan Marchessault recorded a natural hat trick for Vegas as fellow misfits Reilly Smith and William Karlsson also scored to help the Knights grab the win. The VGK defense in the third period was championship caliber. Hill stopped several high probability shots. Their team play negated Edmonton's super duo, 29-97. Vegas defanged the Oilers by staying out of the box.
I think the turning point in the series came when Vegas allowed only one goal during the five minute major in game five. How many Oilers fans salivated at their team having five full minutes to turn loose the best power play in NHL history. How goals would their team score? Three? Four? How about merely one.
Way to way, Golden Knights! More games to come. Hooray!
