Connor Hellebuyck to the Sabres?

Connor Hellebuyck anyone? The Sabres are rumored to be interest in arguably the best goaltender in the NHL. Do we believe the rumor? Sneaky Joe makes the case for making the massive trade that would completely alter expectations in 2023-24, should the Sabres actually pull it off.

What would it cost? Would you need to sign Hellebuyck to a massive extension? Plus, a look at Jack Eichel now being the Conn Smythe favorite.

  1. So i like the idea but in reality i say no. For one he is too expensive: I think Hellbuyck has $6m left on his contract (i could be wrong) and the Jets are gonna want a least a first round pick and a prospect which i think Adams doesnt want to give up. If they are to get a goalie I think they will want another Anderson type goalie who is a vet with some left in the tank to be the mentor/backup to Levi/UPL

  2. 1. I wouldnโ€™t want to trade for Hellebuck unless he signed an extension. 2. Tkachuk has to be the Conn Smythe favorite at this point.

  3. Along with a top four D, I think this should be the #1 push for the Sabres this off-season. Once you finally ascend to the cusp of a playoff spot, and legitimately the division crown, you have to believe that the players who are going to be part of a championship, who come through your system, ARE ALREADY IN PLACE. And with the offensive talent coming along in the next two or three seasons, Buffalo can afford to deal one of the many NHL proven guys who had break-out years in '22-23. This may be the best take of yours that I've seen. I hope your enthusiasm is warranted and vindicated.

  4. My guess is all this talk is a waste of time since he isn't going anywhere and the Jets won't do a rebuild. Not to mention Mr Conservative GM for the Sabres won't part with any young players or picks, let alone pay big bucks for a goalie.

  5. Defense has to step up before they can make a playoff run. And I don't mean offensively. Let's win puck battles and be annoying. The shooters can finish the show.
