Connor Hellebuyck To The NJ Devils? Lindy Ruff Back as Head Coach?

There was alot of chatter on social media regarding the Winnipeg Jets Goalie Connor Hellebuyck being linked To The NJ Devils? In this video I discuss why I dont think this is a great idea even though hes one of the best goaltenders in the NHL.
I also talk about Lindy Ruff talk of coming Back as Head Coach of the New Jersey Devils. He led us to such an outstanding record last year and under his system Players had career years most notably Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier, Dawson Mercer and Dougie Hamilton.

  1. I think Hellebucyk’s best years are behind him. He placed two spots higher than Vitek (as worst performer), and burning nearly TEN per year, is exactly that: BURNING money. Try to pry Knight from the Panthers (may not be possible) or another promising prospect, but it’s a hard pass on Connor.

  2. With the likelihood of resigning both Bratt & Timo, this is not happening and I agree that it shouldn't happen. Look at the Corey Schneider deal. That still stings. Plus you have Dawson Mercer's contract after next season and both Luke and Nemec's contracts down the road.

  3. People need to understand that a sport team can be carried by players in a good form, when it didn't happen, coach didn't come with solutions, same old mistakes, lineups shuffling machine, benching and using wrong players. We need another option

  4. Schmid earned a shot to compete for the starting job in my opinion. If he does not progress next season try picking up a goalie by the deadline. Don't see much of a point going for a big name goalie in the off season at this time, considering all the players that need to be resigned. Lindy and the coaching staff did a great job all season and deserve another go. If Bratt won't agree to resign for a team friendly deal, think they should let him go.

  5. Don’t panic in net. We are in good shape. Let Akira develop this year with vitek as a back up. We’ll see what Akira is mage of. We have some young guys coming up too. Let Blackwood walk. Not the answer and too many injuries. I’m more concerned about keeping Bratt. I think Timo will stay but Bratt will get some offers for sure. I hope he realises how close he is to winning and comes back at a reduced rate to win now! I’d like to see Graves and severs on stay, but they get offers for sure out there. We must resign Haula asap. He is lights out in the playoffs.

  6. So my big takeaway from the playoffs is that the media are lazy and immediately jump back on the stupid story line that the devils goaltending let them down. How about the poor team defense in front of them and zero push back. Schmid looked like a god against the NYR because the team play fantastic team defense and controlled the play the last 5 games of the series. Against CAR, the team simply got out worked, out dawgged, and most importantly outcoached. I believe the coaching also controls your teams work-rate and structure. I think the playoffs were a huge learning experience not only for the players but for the coaching staff and mgmt. The roster is not built for playoffs and our window is just opening so it would be wise of Fitzy to address that this offseason. I'm content with trading Bratt for some time of playoff upgrade cuz he was invisible the whole playoffs.

  7. Trading for Hellebuyck is like last years Josh Anderson. Why would you trade a bunch of assets for a goalie who’s approaching his 30s on his decline? He didn’t even have a good playoffs. I believe in the Schmid/Vanecek tandem. Schmid is only 23 and there’s a real possibility he could develop into a No. 1 goalie. Vanecek is a 1A/1B goalie at the end of the day, was absolutely gassed from the load this season. He’s slightly above average and is the first goalie since Brodeur to get 30 wins. That’s not nothing.

  8. Ruff took this team to incredible heights, he knows what he is doing . Those decades of experience are showing their value. He is an asset, keep him.

  9. Bring Lindy back and don’t even think twice about it. If Brunette leaves so be it.
Hellebuyck they won’t be able to afford under the cap. VV and Schmid are fine. They didn’t lose to Carolina bc of goaltending.

  10. No! Lindy did great this year and you can say that injuries were the reason that we did poorly last yr and the year before. I think Lindy should move up in the organization.and give Brunette his shot this coming year. He’ll be gone and when the team needs that coach that points out missed coverages or gets out the white board between plays, that actually motivates the younger players in real time, it’ll be too late.

  11. In order to acquire Connor Hellebuyck from the Jets, the Devils will have to give up Jesper Bratt, Dawson Mercer, Akira Schmid, Michael Vukojevic, and 2023 and 2024 5th-rounders to get him.

  12. Lots of $ associated with Connor but what hockey player/ goalie doesn't; hard to put a finger on his situation for me.

  13. There’s no goaltender in the league or in the world Devils should pay 9 mil to . I would even move Hamilton if opportunity comes around . Nobody on this team should make more than Jack Hughes .

  14. I disagree. I'd go for Hellybuyck. I think our team would benefit from having a seasoned, top tier, goaltender in the net to sub Schmid so we don't overplay the rookie. Vitek is not playoff material, and the Devils need to focus on building a playoff ready team for next season.

  15. Not to be contentious, but I haven't seen it anywhere that AB was promised anything with respect to the HC job. Devils fans have speculated but I never saw anything confirmed. I'm not in favor of Hellebuyck unless he's short term coming on a deal. Don't want any piece of him getting some big dollar $.
