Bedards combine results are in… they’re BAD…

Last week was the 2023 CHL/NHL prospects combine and Connor Bedard did not perform as a generational prospect would be expected to. In this video we’ll look at what that means and should we re-define what it means to be a good skater?

Should they change the format and tests?

I don’t think so, they server their purpose and in reality everyone knows there’s more to hockey than skating around a few cones. Plus I doubt scouts put much weight into these tests anyway… at least I hope not.

Also, his results are NOT bad.

  1. Lmao as a hockey player I feel like Berdard is purposely lacking combine cuz he knows he’ll do fine in the NHL. Or knowing he’ll get picked by someone. His personality is all about having fun playing hockey no matter what team he’s on. He’s going for “on berdards own terms” haha and I love it

  2. the combine i could only assume is for scouting out later draft picks. teams look for players who can perform in game more so in practice. at least that’s what i would think

  3. Guys Bedard is only 17 years old do you think he can go up against 20 year olds?

  4. That’s .2 seconds. That’s nothing. Anyways in a game setting adrenaline makes you faster so it’s just a somewhat general test

  5. Honestly this shows his growth potential. All the combine skills can be improved upon whereas the talent is inherent. If he develops these skillsets imagine how elite he will be

  6. Combine heroes are notoriously poor pro hockey players. Occasionally you'll see some stud pro names at the top of certain events at combines, but typically the guys that come out on top in those are gym monkeys and not pro quality players.

  7. No, I wouldn't think that the best player would automatically be the best skater. When I think of best player, I think the best overall combination of all skills. Yes skating is important, but there have been plenty of NHLers whose profile read "needs to improve skating" at the time of their draft. Tavares is one that stands out.

  8. also bedard is already going 1st overall without question so there is no point in rly trying in the combine

  9. Nicely Produced Video well done. All GM's should be absolutely aware of the dangers of picking a player who under performs at a combine. The only other player I can think of whose combine results were this poor was eventually picked up in the sixth round of the NFL draft. This disasterous pick made by the New England Patriots was for the under performing Tom Brady more commonly know as the GOAT

  10. Who gives a fuck if you can do fancy mechanics when there is zero pressure on you. Everyone skates and stick handles all fancy until they get rocked center ice.
