[Stein] “I’ve always said that Lindy Ruff was the right coach for this group. So here we are today. He’s still the right coach for this group, he’s earned that right. He deserves that, we deserve him to be quite honest (…) those kids love him.” – Tom Fitzgerald #NJDevils

Perfectly fine with this, no need to overthink things after a 52 win season

  2. IrateBarnacle

I fully recognize we had a really great season, but there were definitely some questionable choices on his part in the playoffs that concern me a little.

  3. HopelessEsq

This is the group that gets Lindy his cup.

His decisions bug me, but dumping Lindy after finally getting to the playoffs when the players like him and the team needs consistency is a risky move. But I do think we will eventually move off of him due to some frustrating playoff exits

Guess they decided better the devil you know.

This team has hit its peak under Lindy, maybe they make it to a Conference Final under him but I doubt it.

Can’t teach an old dog new tricks, the falling in love with plug grinders (Wood, Smith), bingo balling lines at every opportunity, and personnel decisions.

I understand the optics of having to bring back a coach that set a regular season record but it’s just kicking the can down the road.

Something has the change this season. We won 52 games but our power play was dogshit somehow. Gotta figure that out.

I was full bruno at the start of the year and even at points throughout the year, but to not re-sign Lindy after the season we just had wouldn’t feel right.

That being said it’s a business and I trust Tom to do the right thing. Also Bruno’s DUI not great.

Undefeated season and playoff next year, probably win 80 of the games as shutouts!! Lets GO!

  9. Storm_Shaker

Totally fine with this, the man deserves it quite frankly and it seems like he gets the most out of this team at the moment. My only real concern was/is losing brunette, especially to a team in the division (WSH, NYR).

If we keep Lindy, what’s gonna happen with Brunette? The Rags? Thought he was gonna get the nod.

Lindy had some success, no doubt, but don’t want him getting sniped to a rival. Does the organization have to give permission to speak to other GMs?

I dont agree, but I cannot express the levels of trust that Fitz has earned from me, and if he thinks it’s the right choice, I am on board.

Still can’t believe people want to move on after the season they put together. Why would we not run it back? If teams figure them out and he fails to make adjustments next season, there’s an argument, but firing coaches in a knee-jerk fashion feels a little overkill. Even this historic year they lost the first 2 games.

The 2nd round exit was a little disappointing, but I will give them another chance next year. Team has legit, deep run expectations for next season now, instead of “hoping to make the playoffs” and Lindy has gotten us there

  13. beaucoup_movement

Glad to hear it. Lindy can move to his next phase after we win a cup or two.

  14. Absolutely right move. Removing him runs the risk of losing the locker room and honestly we had an actual literal historic season so this is 100% the right move.

  15. Mr7three2

Bad decision. Ruff is not the right choice to lead this team

  16. FreeOJ32

Lindy makes some decisions that drive me nuts, but overall has done a good job guiding the team to the biggest turnaround ever.

  17. SluttyToilet

Lindy was brought in to develop the young guys. Look at how Nico, Jack, Bratt, etc. developed under him. We have guys like Luke, Holtz, Nemec, Casey etc. coming up and I would love for them all to develop in the same way.

People can point to some his questionable decisions made in the season playoffs, but I don’t think people talk enough about his good ones. Putting Schmid in for G3, for example, took a lot of balls and it paid off.

There isn’t a perfect coach in the NHL. Over 82 game season there are going to be mistakes made and some questionable decisions. But you have to bring him back after literally setting the franchise record for points last year.
