Mackenzie Blackwood is set to become a restricted free agent, but he doesn’t seem too confident about his future with the New Jersey Devils organization. He’ll go wherever the opportunity best presents itself, and that might have to be with a different team. While I don’t think Blackwood is a failure, his days as a Devil are probably over. Especially given how much potential Akira Schmid and Vitek Vanecek have showcased.

NJ has already moved on passed Blackwood. His decline wasn't due to the lack of opportunity – NJ wanted him to show them that he was the goalie they drafted. He just couldn't perform and the biggest nail in the coffin aside from the Washington game was the Boston game where he literally lost the net for the 2nd goal. He played amazing that game then had a grade A blunder and you just can't be so consistently inconsistent as a pro.
Let blackwood walk he's to injury prone..trade vitek for hellebuyck and have Akira as a backup. With hellebuyck we will an elite goalie and we will have no question marks in goal for a while. With sorokin and shersterkin in NY the devil's need a top 5 goalie to compete with them and finally have someone whose elite since Marty
Blackwood is gone due to his inconsistency and injury history. Devils have Schmid and Vaneck . Have Vaneck go to a sports psychologist.
It's obvious at this point he won't play much if he stays.
The Devils can't even afford to risk him signing a qualifying offer, he's gonna walk for nothing but we need all the cap space we can get with the other guys they need to bring back or possibly add
