I’m not sure why more people don’t understand this. Let me explain.
1. NHL hats blow chunks because the primary contract is with Fanatics. This is why you cannot buy a New Era 59 Fifty or 39 Fifty, i.e. a proper quality ballcap. Because they can’t make them. So you are stuck with Fanatics.
2. Fanatics is a ruthless business. They only care about selling dogshit and making as much profit as possible. Therefore, teams that sell the most hats have the most hat options, which are still Fanatics dogshit quality, but more varied dogshit. It’s almost a blessing we aren’t one of those teams. If we were, you’d buy the dogshit quality hat and it would fall apart in 2 months. You know how the players have sweet hats we can’t buy? Fanatics. They won’t sell enough to make it worth selling to you. And the quality, again, would still be dogshit.
3. ’47 has a secondary licensing contract with NHL. If you like adjustable dad hats with hyper curved brims, i.e. you are 50 years old with 3 children in college, congratulations, you’ve hit the jackpot, buy a ’47. Prosper.
4. If you are not that person, and want a sleek stylish quality ballcap (read: like New Era), the ’47 options are limited. Since they are a secondary license and not the whole kitchen kaboodle, they don’t make that much for NHL in terms of standard ballcaps. And standard New Era caps aren’t their specialty *anyways* (this is the key point). Their speciality is those dad hat styles. So you’re looking for a product that ’47 doesn’t sell a ton of.
5. Now they do make a few. But they are usually snapbacks, which if you’re me don’t fit my head. I need a proper New Era 7 3/4. So you’re limited here too. And Jersey doesn’t sell anywhere near say, Rangers, Kraken, Blackhawks. So we aren’t going to get anything special from ’47 on their secondary contract.
Let us summarize:
1. The primary company for NHL hats makes dogshit and is hyper focused on profit and will therefore never make you a proper Devils hat, let alone varieties of that hat, that last longer than 2 months. So your primary option is nonexistent. Thank the NHL for signing this contract, and get ready for the same with jersies in a few short years.
2. The secondary company(ies) with smaller licensing agreements won’t make you a good hat because the dollars don’t make sense for the Devils.
3. I dream of the day NHL partners with New Era. They are sucking the Fanatics teat for the next decade so that’s a pure pipe dream.
Buy an MLB hat.

I agree, even our shirts are fucking lame. I hardly have any devils merch left because it got all old and ragged and i just don’t like any of the new styles/designs for shirts and hats. Also combined with the fact i refuse to pay 40-50 dollars for a damn t shirt
