[Wheeler] In Kyle Dubas’ five seasons as Leafs GM, they averaged 106 points. Before he took over, their points record was 105. He was the AGM of that team, too. An unprecedented run of regular season success that he deserves a ton of credit for, even if he didn’t finish the job.

Analytics community in shambles rn. These guys held water for Dubas for a long time.

Bottom line is that the players he staked his career on let him down…over and over again.

Family stuff aside, his departure is on them.

    Keefe will be going next.

When will we learn that regular season records mean absolute fuck all

  4. We dont fucking care about regular season points

  5. WolfofBallMeat

What was our record before the OT loser point was added in 99-00? And did any GM get a shot at a full rebuild since then other than Dubas?

  6. IAmTheBredman

Someone is going to come in and take credit for the foundation that Dubas built. Sucks to see him go

  7. howsshegoin

this should have been enough for a job for life and the presidency

instead we get.. whatever *this* is

  8. Puzzleheaded--Doctor

How many cups does that translate too?

Dubas is a guy you root for but realistically he had to go, not firing Keefe two seasons ago was telling that it wasnt Keefes system, it was Dubas’s. I don’t think Keefe had very much freedom as a coach normally would. You don’t hear GM’s talking about systems and the way the team plays as much as dubas does.

He set this team up for success better than any gm we’ve had before him. The players didn’t do their job. My question is who the fuck does the front office think will do a better job? Because I have no idea.

Correction – the players didn’t finish the job. Dubas can’t physically be on the ice winning them the Cup. He gave them everything they needed and they let him down.

He was gifted an incredible core. Expectations were high, but he (and the team) fell short.

Horrible move. Scapegoat for no reason.

  13. hi_im_bearr

Who can we get that’s as good or better than Dubas?

  14. CdnDutchBoy

Terrible headline. He did his job…others didn’t!

  15. TurdFerguson06

He is only seen as a great GM in comparison to what came before. In all honesty, it was a rookie GM that tried to do things differently.

He gave the players everything they wanted thinking they wouldn’t let him down. Guess what they did. In reality he walked all of our stars right into free agency at max dollars without buying up any RFA years.

  16. hatcherhullmodano

He inherited Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, and Morgan Rielly.

Most overrated GM I can remember

  17. Gankdatnoob

The team he built, for whatever reason, are good in the regular season but bad in the playoffs. That’s just not enough for a team with this much star power.

  18. 12xubywire

We’ve only made it to the third round 4 times. 2x each during the Sundin & Gilmour eras.

Firing the guy who built the best teams we’ve ever had is such a bad move. The guy was building an amazing organization.

150 gm’s have not won a cup during Kyle’s tenure.

This is pulling the plug prematurely on the best GM we’ve ever had whos plans got handcuffed by a flat cap.

There’s literally no better people out there than Kyle to do the job.

I don’t care about regular reason points lmao. The players failed him and so did the coach and that’s also on him. We wasted years of the core with the whole let’s use our skills and no physicality approach besides this year. He’s not the guy for this team but I respect what he did. He was gifted Mathews and marner and wasn’t gm when Willy was drafted either lol

  20. ABoyNamedSault

Uh, who gives a shit about REGULAR season “success”, when the team keeps failing miserably every post season? Regular season for this Leaf team, is pond-hockey, dipsy-doodle time. As soon as things get tough, the core guys all disappear. And that’s on Dubas. He signed them/drafted them/overpaid the hell out of them.

    GTFO with that crap.
