Can you win Conn Smythe trophy even if your team doesn’t win the Stanley Cup? (For example, IF Florida is out but Bob is still clearly the frontrunner even after the SC finals) Or does it only get given to the member of the winning team?

Conn Smythe is all about the MVP on the winning team.

Kinda like you have to be on the Super Bowl team to get the SB MVP

  2. theskinswin

The guy has single-handedly carried the Florida Panthers this playoffs.

What has not happened is someone winning it for their performance in say the first 3 rounds but were eliminated but a Stanley cup final loser has won 5 times.

I do not know if it’s even possible but I truly thought there was a chance of McDavid winning last year. If they had a stronger performance in the conference finals I stand by there was a chance at it if there’s no rules preventing it.

I’d go as far to say if Florida wins 3 more games even if they lose the finals in anything but a sweep Bobby is going to win the conn Smythe.

No one on Vegas has had a performance like that, Eichel is up there but he’s still a cog in the wheel.

Dallas same thing for the most part, Pavelski has had some stunning moments but they are evenly distributed as well.

Florida right now looks like atlas carrying the world and bobrovsky is atlas.

If Florida makes it to the finals, yes. If they’re eliminated prior to the finals then no. It will go to one of the teams in the finals.

They should stop giving it to a player on the losing team as an option. Make it a rule. I don’t want to see a player during one of the saddest professional moments of his life being forced to take a trophy he doesn’t want. Giguere looked suicidal when they made him go have his photo op with Bettman back in 2003.

Thankfully for him he did win a Cup later on.

  6. Yes, Bobrovsky could win it. I’m rooting for Hintz, he has been phenomenal these playoffs.

  7. Losing goalie CAN win it. Most recent was Giguère, he won it in 2003.

  8. DummyThlck

If he keeps going the way he’s going, not allowing more than 2 goals a game, how can you not pick the guy? He’s been unbelievable

  9. mythoughtson-this

He’s arguably not even the front runner on his own team. Matthew Tkachuk has been an absolute monster this postseason.

  10. framingXjake

He kinda deserves it tbh. Dude’s a fucking madlad, there’s no denying that.

  11. Multiple people have done it. Seems like a really easy thing to research. Remember Hextall in ‘87? It was obvious he was the best through all his games.

  12. Straight-Plate-5256

Yes but it’s extremely rare, if Florida makes it to the finals he likely wins it

  13. Constant-Squirrel555

If the Panthers win the cup, do they still try to move Bobo?

  14. withanamelikejesk

Hextall’s ‘87 run was amazing. That Oilers team was stupid good.

  15. Level_Network_7733

Of course you can. But the goalie of the winning team obviously made the right amount of saves to win. If Bob is out, he did not. The winning goalie should get it IMO

Glad to see that big time contract is starting to look worth it. Hate seeing guys not live up to their big tickets.

  17. That 10 mil salary looking much more tradeable now 🤣

  18. yosoyboi

If Edmonton had pushed Colorado to 6 or 7 games last year instead of getting swept, I think McDavid would have won even without going to the finals.

  19. Dis-Ducks-Fan-1130

I don’t think there are any rules preventing someone from winning but I’m pretty sure there is an unwritten rule that you have to be in the finals.

  20. ApartPersonality1520

I think it’s obvious he’s the best goalie playing the game right now? Who else you got?

  21. middletown-dreams

The conne smythe is awarded to the playoff MVP, all players on the 16 playoff teams are eligible. It has never been awarded to a player that did not play in the final.

Personally, I’m rooting for Justin Holl /s

  22. PossessionFit5172

I mean it has been done before but they need to get the finals

  23. Xyi-King

Давай Серега. Вперед к победе 🔥👍

  24. rokken70

I think, and this is just my opinion, if you don’t get your team to at least the finals, you aren’t the MVP of the playoffs. That would be like giving a medal to sprinter that missed the final sprint because he didn’t qualify for the final. That’s what I think, but your mileage may vary.

  25. Yop_BombNA

Love how coming into the playoffs Lyon was the guy. Then he what the bed and big bob came in reminding everyone why he’s a Vezina winner.

  26. Victal87

I’m so glad Giguere eventually got his ring

  27. GoRangers5

The “Playoff Bob” meme has changed its stripes.

  28. ImCoeld

I think some idiot voted for Erik Karlsson one year the went to the conference finals. That was before you had to sign your name to who you are voting for. Thankfully. So no, only players in the finals will get votes for Conn Smythe.

He is the front runner sure. But it’s not over. Pavelski scored 8 goals last series. Hintz has 19 points. There are storylines to develop. Also current goalies have better SV% and GAA

  29. BuckNutley

Frankie Corrado is the worst analyst in the history of hockey. Seriously, why does anyone care what he has to say about hockey?

Like, I mean, he isn’t wrong…but we’ve just started the third round. I can make obvious statements too, but nobody at TSN pays me for it.

  30. Falcon3492

Five players from the losing team have won the Conn Smythe Trophy, the last one being Jean-Sébastien Giguère from the Ducks twenty years ago.

  31. specifichero101

They can, and I think it’s incredibly stupid. Give the playoff mvp to a guy that won the cup. Giving it to a losing player is bad.

  32. WildWing22

Giggy was goated, so glad he got a cup a few years later. Always remember the photo of him putting his newborn in the cup haha

  33. bigjam987

there have been 5-6 times where the Conn Smythe was won by the loosing team in the Stanley Cup finals. So its fully possible

  34. ReformedGalaxy

Jay Onright been a bob fan since day 1.

  35. This guy torpedoed my entire hockey pool season

  36. Disastrous-Bottle-12

2003 JSG was BS, yeah JSG was great in the playoffs but, Marty should’ve won that year after what he did vs that stacked Ottawa team and losing only 1 game per series vs Boston and TB
