  1. Ngl I’d do it, probably other 2 teams won’t. It’s just a fantasy anyway!

Man this is up there with that Marner for Miller trade in terms of boneheaded nonsense. I enjoy J.T. Miller but he is absolutely, 100% more of what the Leafs already have and not a solution to any of their problems. So not only do they get bled on age, value and contract efficiency, they’re not even gaining anything back by way of intangibles.

Of course Dubas is apparently on his way out and Chiarelli and Benning are unemployed so anything is possible.

  3. nihilism_ftw

    > “it sort of felt like the Canucks wanted a take-back”

Just because most fans have no clue what value Miller brings to the table doesn’t mean that our management also doesn’t lol

  4. 21marvel1

The only thing holding me back is the lack of C coming back… ahhhhh but Nylander would be so good with Pettersson …but ahhhh the C depth would be way too thin and there isn’t any real options on the FA market that we could afford to fill that 2C spot.

  5. Upbeat_Trainer

Who’s our 2c then? Nylander is also due for a raise and there’s going to be no savings from the Miller contract. I wouldn’t mind Nylander playing with Petey, but it creates other problems.

Not to mention that we already have a shitload of wingers, many of which we’re trying to get rid of.

  6. JT is exactly what the leafs need- a guy that would drag them into the fight because mitchy is too scared

  7. metrichustle

Nylander Petey Kuzy. Sounds good to me

  8. NotaRussianChabot

This looks very lopsided but then you remember how bad that Matt Murray contract is.

  9. CrabBeanie

Miller has “outer-rim Selke consideration… two way style…”

The snarky reply basically writes itself.

  10. TheWeakestLink1

This doesn’t address Vancouver’s needs for a 2C. I think the only option for Vancouver to get a 2C deal is to send nylander to Chicago instead. Since Chicago doesn’t have a good center to offer, I think the only way for this to work is if they offer a 1st round pick in this year’s draft so Vancouver can select a 2C.

  11. Faldarian

Another winger and a 3rd pairing D. Those are the two positions we have so many of we should be trying to shed.

What we need most is a top-4 RHD, and middle six center.

  12. CaptainIndoCanadian

This obviously won’t happen as much as we’d love to, but the fact that opposing teams are willing to do this has me hyped lmao. What other eliminated team can we take advantage of?! Give us Laffy and K’andre NYR!!!

  13. JGibbons151

I follow both teams closely and wouldn’t mind this from either side. Sure, the Canucks win this deal but the leafs could do worse than adding a guy like Miller. The only concern with Nylander would be what kind of money he might want as a UFA. Still think the Canucks should do this if it were ever an option.

  14. DaMonstaburg

This would be a great trade and might’ve been considered if not for Nylander being the only Leaf on ice during Round 2 who wanted to win that series.

  15. skorvat

Anyone who wouldn’t do this deal is out of their mind. There is good value in just getting out of Miller’s deal, let alone getting back a talent like Nylander and an RHD in Liljegren.

  16. joeyandkuma

Why would we need another winger of which we have many of the same mould also leaves a gap at c2 makes no sense

  17. Semprovictus

Problem I have here is the contract amounts don’t line up, and then we have a significant hole in our 2c and 3c spots with no room to move

  18. Jazzlike_Kick_5434

I think the only way this happens is if MLSE replaces Dubas with Hextall.

  19. Spookedchicken

I’d say yes and hang up to call the NHL head office the moment that offer is made to me before the Leafs change their mind. That would be an unequivocal fleecing by us it’s not even funny.

  20. LeftToaster

I’m trying to see what Chicago gives up in this deal. They only acquire assets?

If I understand it correctly from each team’s perspective:

    * Leafs trade Nylander, Murray, Liljegren and a 2024 4th round pick for JT Miller. In terms of cap space they have $12.9M going out and $8M coming in.
    * The Canucks trade JT Miller and a 2023 4th round pick for William Nylander and Timothy Liljegren. $8M in cap spacing going out, $8.3M coming back.
    * The Blackhawks trade nothing for Matt Murray and 2023 and 2024 4th round picks.

From a value perspective, the Leafs get hosed and Vancouver and Chicago win. I guess I’m fine with that conceptually.

However from a team building perspective, the Canucks are already a bit shallow at Centre and really deep on the Wings – with Kuzmenko, Mikheyev, Boeser, Beauvillier, Garland, Podkolzin, Joshua, Hoglander, Kravtsov, etc. While Nylander would move up to near the top of this list (maybe rival Kuzmenko) it doesn’t really make the team any better. Worse, we would lose our depth at centre – meaning Dries, Aman, Raty or McDonough would have to step up into a permanent NHL 2nd line C role – none of them are equipped to do. So then with even more expensive depth on the wings we would immediately have to trade at least 1 of these wingers for a 3C and some cap relief.

  21. NoClue22

No. Lilgren is a defensive black hole. Bear is essentially the same player. And Miller is better then contract year nylander. Miller is better then nylander and Lilgren. Not a good trade

  22. Shironye

Canucks are making out like bandits in this, lmao.

Do this and the 11th + Garland for Laf. Oh yeah.

  23. The Canucks couldn’t say yes fast enough to that. Why the Leafs would say yes? Not a clue. They’d need another piece back.

  24. Vanrainy1

Why would the ‘nucks do this? I’ d take JT over Nylander every time.

  25. JTMilleriswortha1st

i’d love that trade if it actually happened

  26. PixelBot9000

As a Canucks fan, I am absolutely thrilled about this three-way deal proposal from Sportsnet. It’s about time some good news came our way! I can only hope that the team takes advantage of this opportunity and comes out on top. Let’s go Canucks!
