The Trials and Tribulations of the Coyotes Franchise From 1996 Until Now

I wanted to make a video with this timeline to show that this team has been in trouble from the day they moved operations to the desert.

  1. Rogers Place in Edmonton is a beautiful arena. Yet within a block is some of the worst urban poverty in Canada. I have a friend who does volunteer work at the Mission Hall. They are a faith based organisation that feeds and clothes poor and homeless people. Some of them live in tents when it is -40C right within walking distance of the hockey arena. Something is wrong with that.

  2. You make a good point about players desire to sign with uncertainty looming. Not only could free agents be difficult to sway, but what's a guy like Logan Cooley thinking when he can just wait out his college eligibility like so many others before him have? Tough situation for sure, feel for the diehard Yotes fans

  3. The Coyotes get chance after chance after chance yet Jets, Nordiques, Northstars, Whalers, all got no or very little help from the league. Time to move this failed project.

  4. The Tempe stuff came across the news here around KC. Patrick Mahomes stated that he wants the Coyotes here in KC. We have the T-Mobile center which was built initially for NHL/NBA teams.

  5. As i recall scottsdale wanted the parking revenue at the los arcos site and was terminated. On that site is skysong a mixed use innovation center partnered with ASU housing 50+ companies and is today a major investment engine

  6. Elliotte Friedman basically saying that owners are big mad about the Coyotes situation is fun. This just gets juicier and juicier!

  7. Thanks for the insight, and putting it in a timeline for better context. I understand the Glendale county council being salty for getting had all these years. They probably bought into that this would be one of the driving forces to grow the area substantially, and it's sad that the synergies haven't panned out.

Potentially, it could've been what Arlington or even Fort Worth have become for Dallas, thus helping the Phoenix-metro area grow as a whole, and not put all the strain on just one city when it comes to population density and housing costs.

Bytw, great choice to put the front of the arena displaying the most über-douchy kind of event with the duplicitous message, in this instance to the Glendale legislature and voters: only you will ultimately be held accountable for greenlighting all this mess.

  8. Honestly Hamilton is a $ maker idea. It has its own small market similar to Winnipeg and Quebec, but it also has the giant bleed over market with Toronto. Big GTA sales will happen since they can't get enough of the Leafs. It would even help Buffalo a bit with fans going to watch them play against Buffalo. Both Leafs and Sabres may not WANT Hamilton in, but it would make the league pretty good $. If the league ever goes beyond 32 teams and grows to 36 for the future, then you will likely see Hamilton and possibly Quebec added in the East.

  9. A thousand excuses but the simple fact is that this 25 year experiment in the desert has got to stop.
    Coyotes need to go. ✋🏾🗿

  10. If the hometown superstar currently playing north of the boarder said that he wanted to come play with the Yotes…do you think that would help the arena situation for them? (Like that’s ever going to happen but it’s a unique thought)

  11. Brooklyn was great for hockey, and I even went to a Ducks game at the original Coyotes arena and enjoyed that too. Better than Glendale!

  12. Talk To Montreal about Losing it's Baseball Team. One thing we know at least is that Baseball will be back, at least when Tampa, Idiot 2028 contract expires.. I do feel sorry for local Arizona fans.. The Retire Canada/People can still root for their Orig teams. Right>.. R. BTW- Yes everyone ask's .. I'm John Kruk's Cousin.. In Canada..

  13. If they move, I think Milwaukee is the best option
The Brewers and Bucks are popular they can stay in central division and the rivalry with the Wild writes itself

  14. Remember former Sharks president Greg Jamison? He was supposed to buy the Coyotes when they were under league ownership. All the Coyotes fans looked at him as a savior, and he spoke to the media like he already owned the team. Bettman finally imposed Jamison a deadline to buy the Coyotes, only to find out that Jamison didn't have any money! The NHL dodged a bullet, or should I say, dodged a John Spano.

  15. Only under Gary Buttman could a fair weather franchise that has to settle for playing in an amateur arena continue to exist for all of these years. Just move the team, and be done with it. I’m sure all sixty fans will understand.

  16. Great video. Sad for Yotes fans ❤ Shane Doan must be devastated too he dedicated his career to the Yotes and Arizona his home. I feel bad for the fans, the employees and for the kids who love Hockey. Sad all around❤

  17. Let's just blame Bet-man and move on. It was set to fail from the start since they never give it a thought of having a proper arena for a hockey franchise.

  18. I'm a new-ish NHL fan (8 years now) and don't know much of the history, especially teams outside my home team. I was trying to explain this to my husband and he was asking all these questions about the history that I didn't know so this is MUCH APPRECIATED!

  19. If this had happened with a Canadian team, there's no way they would have kept them in that city. Such a double standard.

  20. This is a great example of how NOT to move a successful franchise, perhaps this franchise will be better in another 30 years.

  21. Will be a Yotes fan either way. I hope they stay in AZ but if they HAVE to move I hope it’s Salt Lake City

  22. They were basically thrown into the desert without a concrete plan in place. No real building nor did they screen potential ownership for a group or individual suited for the task. It was a recipe for disaster no matter which market they went.

  23. The ownership changing hand so many times probably didn't help either. No stability of ownership and not paying bills made it easy for Tempe residents to at least be hesitant of the arena.

  24. They can go and renovate the Phoenix Veterans memorial coliseum and play there. Why not? Instead of going back to America West Arena.

  25. There are absolutely big time fans here. Many of them. But Glendale is to far on a Tuesday at 7pm for example.

  26. Going back to 2008, I don't understand why the other owners tolerated the financial reality of the club and didn't pull the plug on the ARI experience sooner.

  27. This is only a thought, the time has come for the NHL to pick up its stakes and move to a hungry NHL city that lost its team, Hartford, Connecticut, and rebrand them as the Hartford Whalers. The arena is already built, and fan loyalty is already in place. So what if greedy owners say, "A hockey team won't work in a "small market" like Hartford, CT". I say bullcrap, you have instant rivalries with teams in Boston, New York, and Washington, DC. I honestly don't understand why the NHL has teams in Arizona and Florida. The Florida Panthers would be my second choice for a team to relocate to Hartford, CT.
