Let’s do this! The Cult of Hockey podcast. By the Faithful and for the Faithful, tonight with Bruce McCurdy and David Staples. They dig into Edmonton’s 4-3 loss to the Golden Knight of Las Vegas.
I can't fault all of Drai's mistakes in this game, he scored the only 4 goals for the Oilers in game 1, they lose, he gets assaulted in game 4 and it most certainly left a bruise or a kink in his arm, only a game suspension for Petro, probably annoyed Drai to no end, it's just unfortunate. Hopefully he bounces back. Go Oilers! Oh, he saved a goal right in the beginning of the game on that Vegas wraparound attempt also.
annoyed me to lose the game in a 5 minute section. The 5on3 had no business being called as Broberg's hold is very minor in fact Eichel held him more. Was a BS call. 7 pp to 3pp, the reffing dictated the outcome of the game again. Oh well move on to the next one win that and come back for a best of 1
Skinner 6' 4 206lbs Campbell 6' 3 207lbs Skinner looks like a giant compared to Campbell. Skinner has no lateral movement as seen on the wraparound attempt in the first. Campbell zips around effortlessly. If not for Skinner using equipment that's at the max size the league allows he'd still be in Bakersfield. Size and positioning does not make a good goalie. Campbell deserves to start game 6. Can't have an entire playoff year with a rookie faltering while the guy being paid to be #1 continues to sit on the bench
If the playoff Kane from last year showed up it would make my day. Yamanogoal ugh! I’m sure skinner will be in next game but I’d like to see Campbell in, he’s amazing in the playoffs. The golden refs call on Broberg was terrible. They shot themselves in the foot by taking too many careless penalties! 7!way too many! Let’s hope they clean it up next game or they’ll be 🏌️♂️
Take away the bad luck call, the bounces Vegas got, Oilers won this game, outplayed Vegas. Oilers in 7. Only thing I didn't like was Oil didn't score the tie in the last period. Something wrong there. McDavid had that winning spirit and never gave up.
Ugh, tough loss, Oilers played good but not great, their overall pace and tenacity wasn't high enough tonight, too much solo play vs team play. Credit Vegas they really boxed us out tonight and shut down the passing lanes. Far to many players are not touching the game in a meaningful way led by Yamo! P.S. George Parros the hypocrisy of you holding the title of Head of NHL's department of player safety!
Fifth game of the series and again discipline is the key word. This time it's in a bad way as the Oilers lacked it and came up short. They ran out of time and simply weren't the better team this day. All of their scoring came on the PP (75% tonight), Leon kept off the boards. Only Connor and Hyman scored (Connor twice), Bouch with 2 assists, 2 apples for Nuge as well and Hyman got an assist in addition to his goal so we have 4 players with 2 points. Skinner yanked before the end of the 2nd period. Okay, giving up a 5 on 3 PP goal, sure, it's likely. Giving up the 5 on 4 PP goal well was hoping for more from the PK and Skinner. That gave VGK the lead and they kept it and built on it a minute later with a 5 on 5 goal. Hence the yank.
Campbell was lights out for the remainder of the 2nd period and all of the 3rd period. I can see him as starting game 6 but can also see Skinner going back in too. He plays well after getting the hook. The Oilers could NOT stay out of the box. Broberg TWICE (and he only played just over 6 minutes) including the first of the 5 on 3 PP goals by VGK. Janmark was responsible for the 2nd 5 on 4 PP goal. Broberg apparently is "grabby" with 2 holding penalties and Janmark had a high stick. Foegele had a FOUR Minute High Stick in the 3rd period that the Oilers killed but still, with that double high stick the Oilers are listed with SEVEN penalties to the Golden Knights four. Kolesar boarded Ekholm (hope he's okay because loosing him would be BAD) and was chucked with a game misconduct.
There is no "politically correct" way of being even remotely close to candid about the flushable officiating in this one. I just remember they're human. They boys have to win the next two to advance to the 3rd round. We're now in MUST WIN territory. Take care all.
Campbell and holloway need to be in the next game. Campbell has looked good, and how many times has skinner been pulled now? Yamo has been…..not good, all playoffs.

If the defense arent going to block the shot….they should …." GET THE HECK OUT OF THE WAY SO THE GOALIE CAN SEE THE SHOT!"…Simple stuff! 😡….I thought on the 5 min pp I seriously thought we'd score 2 maybe 3, but we only get 1, imo the difference in the game. When we really needed the goals the pp failed us, because the players wanted to make that perfect play instead of shoot every little chance they got….We shouldve had 20 shots maybe? What did we get 3 – 4? ☹….
Holloway should be in next game, take out Yamamoto….And do we put Campbell in? Decisions need to be made……Drai needs to show up! It seems like he went on holidays after his 1st round performance. I predicted the Oilers in 6, I guess it now has to be in 7…..The boys can do it. still believe we're the better team. They just need to stop taking penalties and be better 5 on 5….Take shots from everywhere…the goalie doesnt look comfortable in my opinion. GO OILERS GO!…
Too bad we still didnt have Ethan Bear, we'd probably be winning the series….Oh, Btw Bear playing on Team Canada at World Championships! Well deserved! 😎👍

Keep Crying about Broberg penalty and the red being 1000 feet away ….last time I checked Yamamoto crossed cheek Stone with the ref sitting less than 2 feet away…..which lead in same sequence to an oilers goal….
They were in the same state as the last games they got owned in but not quite as bad. Same syndrome though, whatever the hell that is. Jittery with the puck, can’t clear it when they have possession in their end and they’re in trouble or on the PK, not skating or hitting enough… This team wins the cup if they just put in a normal NHL effort. It’s criminal to waste a year of these elite players’ careers.

Oilers need the top guys to show up 5 on 5 including Kane. Boys will show on all cylinders game 6 hitting.

Ugh, tough loss, Oilers played good but not great, their overall pace and tenacity wasn't high enough tonight, too much solo play vs team play. oilers have to beat the other team and the refs most games.

Campbell deserves the game 6 start! He came in relief of Skinner and killed it. Campbell was lights out with about 3 five alarm shots that he stopped.
The one sided refereeing is just so fucking blatant.

90 Seconds, 3 goals against and the best player in the game showed up and they were 3 for 3 on the pp. Hard to believe they lost.
