  1. Ordinarily I'd point out that he's made plenty of money etc etc, but then I remembered he lives in Toronto so probably has yet to pay off the mortgage on his 1800 sq foot house.

  2. I think Marc Bergevin would be a perfect replacement for Dubas. He's got experience, and built a really good Montreal team that eliminated us in the first round. I don't like Brad Treliving, though. He'd be the same or worse to me, that's my opinion.

  3. This is how millennials roll. He faked his way into the gig and made bank. Whoever hires Dubass, will be crowned the new Emperor Dumbass.

  4. Just a reminder to everyone: Sportsnet is owned by Rogers who also owns the Maple Leafs, so don't expect a fair portrayal of what took place here…

  5. Dubas is gone. Seems to have overplayed his hand. Shanahan was a a warrior class player. After losing a playoff round and publicly wining about how tough the job is and deferring to your wife as the decision maker, that would have had to be the end for Dubas in Shanahan's eyes. Not reading the room and having your agent inflate an ask that already accommodated months of negotiated 'must haves' is, in any business, interpreted as bad faith.
Sports is big business but at the end of the day it is just hockey. Anything other than Dubas stating "Tough to stomach the loss but instead, I focus on the awesome organization we have built, which anybody lucky enough to be a part of, knows is 1st class. We have a strong core of character guys who like me, want to win. We make moves to add depth and talent and I believe each year we have gotten better. We will continue to do so and if the leadership of MLSE continues to have faith in me, I am committed to doing anything I can to bring home a Cup to Toronto".
#1 priority IMHO is goaltending. The young guy Woll looked good when called upon and might have the secret sauce but Samsonov was often caught out of position and gave up too many weak goals. Move Samsonov.

Defense was outmatched with both Florida opponents and the Leafs need their Coffey, Leetch, Lidstrom anchors to transition up ice without turnovers. Emphasis on a combination of speed and nastiness.
In terms of trade bait up front I think you need to shake things up.
Not necessarily wholesale changes but certainly a blockbuster with at least one of Tavares, Marner or Mathews needing to go. A Losing attitude is a virus that needs to be cut out.
Edmonton went all in this year and are also out in the 2nd round to Vegas, so perhaps there is a blockbuster McDavid and or Draissaitl for Mathews and or Marner. An explosive move that could shake up both rosters.
Another move is Mathews and Samsonov for the #1 pick with Chicago. Do something bold to grab a potential generational talent and clear cap space.

Is a coaching change warranted? Perhaps. Keep in mind NHL coaches earn their chops through experience and just blowing the coach out does not change a losing culture.
A change could be positive and candidly now more likely but only if a world class guy is ready to step in.
Joel Quenneville comes to mind. He took a bullet for what happened in Chicago but is a proven winner.
Now it gets interesting because Stan Bowman, who won 3 Cups in Chicago (with Quenneville a former Leaf) could come in as a package deal. Shanahan with his relationships with the NHL HO could smooth things over for re-reinstatement for both.
    Thoughts?

  6. Amateur organization doing amateur things. Reilly said he couldn't believe the perks the players got. It's time to throw out the perks and make EVERY PLAYER earn it. Look at the Florida series. The coach was so badly out – couched it was farcical. Why is Keith still there? Look at Brindamour, Trotts, Bowman, etc. These great coaches are at the big show every year. WHY! It's because they are great coaches. The Big 4 players disappeared in round 2 because they weren't playing for anything but summer vacation.

  7. The Leafs are a business and are very successful. The Cup isn't necessary in Toronto. The stadium and watering holes are full no matter how bad the team is. Dubas has been stealing a check for five years. The most important position on the ice is goalie. Dubas is oblivious to that.

  8. Too bad the Head line doesn't say Shanahan is Fired!!!! Hire back Mark Hunter PLease!!

  9. Shanahan needs to go too. Nothing but playoff embarrassment on his watch. The coach should be an automatic firing, not even worth discussing. When was the last time the Leafs had good goaltending? Time to clear the decks.

  10. We all have an opinion on what is wrong or why can't the Leafs win more than they lose. At the end of the day, the Leafs are always fun to watch and they will continue to be fun to watch. Toronto is a great sports city regardless of the sport! Because it is, the media scrutinizes the sports team more than other cities. Toronto is a world-class city that wants world-class sports teams. That's fair. I always want to see Canadian sports teams do well. Especially Calgary and or Edmonton. Hockey is a great sport pretty much at all levels of play. There's always next year!
Toronto sports fans keep your chins up! The Leafs did better than most of their rivals. Winning is tough at the professional level! That's probably why fans idolize winners so much!

  11. Dubas obviously has a back up offer for 2024/2025. He said there is lots of stress in T.O. He made an offer to stay, they didn't accept, so now he'll go to plan B.

Dubas said Plan B is to take a year off then take a job elsewhere.

Why does everyone think living in T.O. is the cream of the crop?

You know why Paul Maurice quit in Winnipeg?

Because he already had a secret offer from Florida.

You know why Dubas asked for more money in T.O?

Because he already has an offer from a US team.
