Dubas got tossed under the bus hard by shanny. Shanny brings in dubas and wanted to bring him back and had an offer yet dubas agent had other ideas.
When does he start his job as a Rachel Maddow body double?
Who cares? Leafs will never win a cup, just like the Canucks
dubas had a change of heart after saying he wanted to stay with the leafs. it's pretty lame to say 'i changed my mind' so he said he wanted more than what they had agreed apon. what better way to be shown the door than doing that? shanahan basically torpedoed dubas in public for his greasy tactics. oh, the nhl in canada!
And as I believed & was confirmed:
" James Mirtle in The Athletic on Friday
Multiple sources close to the team said that Shanahan had blocked transactions that Dubas wanted to make at key points in the past several seasons, creating frustration in parts of the management group. Shanahan had also at times dictated certain moves he wanted made that Dubas didn’t agree with.
The president, as per his place in the hierarchy, typically won out in those battles. And, in some cases, the moves that weren’t made could have improved the Leafs’ ability to advance further in the playoffs. "
Simply put … Dubas wanted not just more money cause of what shanahan & mlse wanted him to do .. but also more freedom to do stuff. And there mindset by that statement by mirtle is …. Harold Ballard 2.0 mindset.
Nothing fishy here, simple negotiation. Dubas didn't really want to come back and didn't do anything wrong.
I don't agree with your "fishy" conclusion. Much can change over a few months. If Shanahan wanted or needed commitment in March, he should have worked out a new contract then. I also don't agree that the KD press conference indicated he didn't want to come back. It was merely an acknowledgment of reality that the decision is a family thing. As it should be. Not having decided is not the same as declining. It is difficult to draw any conclusions because we have now only heard Shanahan's side. I'm not sure why, even on his facts, the presentation of an opening offer justifies what followed.
Would not be surprised if Dubbas got a secret offer from another team and asked Toronto to match. But really are you losing much? What has Dubbas actually done as the Leafs GM other than bring Tavares over? In 5 years Dubbas never managed to solve the goaltending issue. He inherited a team full of stars and kept the status quo. Good job but not commensurate with being a super genius.
how come shanahan still has his job?????
Corporate intrigue in a hockey mad city that is Toronto, reminds me of the power struggle between Canucks president Trevor Linden and his GM Jim Benning between 2014 and 2018.
