Fifth game of the series and again discipline is the key word. This time it's in a bad way as the Oilers lacked it and came up short. They ran out of time and simply weren't the better team this day. All of their scoring came on the PP (75% tonight), Leon kept off the boards. Only Connor and Hyman scored (Connor twice), Bouch with 2 assists, 2 apples for Nuge as well and Hyman got an assist in addition to his goal so we have 4 players with 2 points. Skinner yanked before the end of the 2nd period. Okay, giving up a 5 on 3 PP goal, sure, it's likely. Giving up the 5 on 4 PP goal well was hoping for more from the PK and Skinner. That gave VGK the lead and they kept it and built on it a minute later with a 5 on 5 goal. Hence the yank.
Campbell was lights out for the remainder of the 2nd period and all of the 3rd period. I can see him as starting game 6 but can also see Skinner going back in too. He plays well after getting the hook. The Oilers could NOT stay out of the box. Broberg TWICE (and he only played just over 6 minutes) including the first of the 5 on 3 PP goals by VGK. Janmark was responsible for the 2nd 5 on 4 PP goal. Broberg apparently is "grabby" with 2 holding penalties and Janmark had a high stick. Foegele had a FOUR Minute High Stick in the 3rd period that the Oilers killed but still, with that double high stick the Oilers are listed with SEVEN penalties to the Golden Knights four. Kolesar boarded Ekholm (hope he's okay because loosing him would be BAD) and was chucked with a game misconduct.
There is no "politically correct" way of being even remotely close to candid about the flushable officiating in this one. I just remember they're human. They boys have to win the next two to advance to the 3rd round. We're now in MUST WIN territory. Take care all.
I really hope Vegas wins game 6 i am sick of watching the oilers play a rookie who has been pulled 3 times now it is clear he is not ready for playoff hockey yet.

I love to listen to you, Patrick, and Jay…what happens will happen and I will not stop loving my hometown team. Technically you guys are all over it, and I admire your energy in calculating all this stuff…but romantically, in hockey I only love blue and orange, and love the game of hockey. What will happen will happen and as a 48 year old I have seen the everest and the mariana trench… nothing can phase me anymore…. I know Edmonton will do their best and that's, as a spectator, the maximum I can expect. Bless you all

The Oilers purpose in the first 5 minutes of the game last night should have been to send a message to Vegas about the slash on Draisaitl. Desharnais' job should have been to send a message.
This Oiler team could very well win Game 6 and then Game 7 in Vegas(its possible). However, they've been exposed. Teams now know how to beat them and that's through pressuring their D. Ceci, Desharnais, Broberg and even Nurse to some degree are ALL susceptible to exploitation. Desharnais(is an AHL D). Ceci is playing like a weak 3rd pair D. Broberg is Broberg a wasted early first round pick thanks to Ken Holland. And Nurse is what he is.. an average 2nd pair D. Yammamoto isn't good enough for top 6. RNH has disappeared. Draisaitl looks worn out from carrying the team. They're done. Next year.

The only way Edmonton can win is with the help of the refs. Edm has a killer power play, but 5 on 5 it’s Vegas all the way. Maybe Edm needs to learn how to win without taking dives hoping for power plays? VGK takes this series due to their depth and staying out of the box, even with ESPN, refs and nhl all being in the bag for Edm 🙂
If they don't come out crashing the next 2 games, they lose. It couldn't have been more obvious than last night. The whole "one game at a time" mindset is dead wrong. They CAN'T reset after every game, they need to maintain the intensity for 120 minutes.

Jay needs to give the net to Campbell and send a message to the other guys that they need to defend better in front of the net and stop the Skinner experiment he’s simply not the same in the playoffs for whatever reason as he was in season. I believe they desperately need a spark to keep this going and Campbell should get the chance imo.

They will lose unfortunately, not enough secondary scoring, weak defence and shaky goaltending. Campbell needs to start, a change is in order.
