  1. Toronto needs to get out of the first round this year if they have any hope of Matthews signing a contract. He wants to win and will go to wherever is capable of doing that while paying him bank.

  2. What's a player like that supposed to say? If he says anything other than he loves playing there and wants to stay he will be hounded by fans and the media non-stop until he either re-signs or leaves

  3. Drew Doughty was ready to ask for a trade, because the Kings couldn’t win for a long time. And as a Kings fan, I’m glad he has stayed. But I understand why he would want to leave. He is very competitive, and doesn’t like losing

  4. They can't officially start negotiating before next July, but you can be pretty sure that they will regardless. Look at what Tampa did this year. As soon as free agency kicked in, they started announcing extensions to a bunch of players. Julien BriseBois obviously didn't negotiate 8 year deals with multiple agents in a few minutes only. The same can be said about Jack Campbell and the Oilers, where the term and money had even been leaked one week in advance. Those rules don't mean much, since they are not enforced. When was the last time that the NHL fined a team for doing something like that?

  5. Pretty obvious he is going somewhere else. So for Toronto the smart move is to trade him next summer. They are still a beast of a team and the haul they could get for him would be absolutely crazy.

  6. No but tkachuck said before he went to florida he said that i probaly would want to move on another team

  7. Tavares my have let down the Islanders but the Islanders let down Tavares as well. He gave that team endless chances to get him help and they didn't. Anyone that had a chance to play for their favorite team growing up and play with players like Matthews, Marner and Nylander why would they stay in New York.

  8. Do you think there is even a possibility he would say "I hate this team. I hate this town. I wish i played anywhere but here!!"

Of course he's going to say he loves it there, even if he doesnt mean it. He doesnt really have any other options.

  9. I am not a leaf’s fan but I could actually see him signing with Toronto maybe on a 3 year extension then going 8 years when he’s getting closer to 30

  10. I'd trade him if he won't sign in a year, no way I'm letting a player of that calibre become a UFA, he say's he loves it there now until the Kings come in & offer him 14 mill AAV & he's gone for nothing
