What should the Leafs do with Matt Murray?

Jay Onrait was joined by TSN Hockey analyst Frankie Corrado to get his thoughts on whether or not Mitchell Marner is the most likely member of Toronto’s core four to be traded, how captain John Tavares’ role could change moving forward, and what the Maple Leafs should do in net next season.

  1. Not a Chance you trade Mitch and get anything back that improves your team, not a chance, he does too much and plays in all situations

  2. This guy is stupid, Says too many of the same kinda of players on this team,, at the same time saying Mitch the only super Star that's different then the others is the guy to trade lol, then saying Matthews isn't going anywhere, yes he is , by trade and getting something for him or by Ufa and getting nothing, but he is going elsewhere

  3. Marner turns 20 goal scores into 35 goal scorers, 30 goal scorers into 50, and plays on the pk, pp ya that's the guy you trade, Not Matthews who is leaving by Ufa at seasons end or Nylander who will be also leaving at seasons end unless you give into him and over pay him

  4. Signing JT was the wrong move by Dubas.

At the time we were all happy of course, but I've said it before and I'll say it again. That money could have gone to other spots on the roster.

Now we're in a situation where you look at trading possibly Matthews, Nylander or Marner, which again was never the plan as they were suppose to play the majority, if not all of their careers here. Could they have taken team friendly deals, yes. Another mistake was bending over to these players after proving nothing but regular season success.

All in all, this is a disaster. Fans and the media don't make it any better and the organization looks like a joke. Whatever happens happens, it's just crazy to see how things have turned after that Tampa series(Where again, we didn't play the best and you can argue could have been put in the first round again).

  5. Matthews isnt going anywhere? Thats some over confidence if i ever heard it lol
Matthews was only a garantee with dubas around, with him gone.. Matthews to arizona not so farfetched

  6. No no no Marner has to stay he is your set up man that makes JT and Matthews look better you cannot replace that type of playmaker NYLANDER a has to go

  7. Nylander is not a 200’ player MARNER is we have enough scoring you dodo heads we need D and goaltending MARNER STAYS you idiots why would you trade your best play maker ??????????

  8. Trade your best set up man and you have what????? Scorers with no set up man, think about it you just short yourself in the foot are you stupid or just not smart

  9. I can hear the whiners already: How could the Leafs trade Marner? He's their best player and so young. Silly discussion, keep him!

  10. You trade the rights to Samsonov, you keep Murray and platoon him with Woll until game five. That’s when Murray gets hurt and ends up on Robidas Island for the season. They have to be willing to sacrifice next year, and since that’s not likely to happen, they probably won’t do enough to address what really needs to be addressed. I have news for all of you, it’s still a Top Pairing legitimate Right Shoot DMan, before anything else.

  11. I really don’t think he’s the biggest problem. It starts with Tavares and Matthews. I know JT has a no move, that doesn’t mean you can’t make so difficult for him, that he wants out. You can still present something to the guy. Maybe his wife would love to move to LA. Some talk about LA for a Doughty. Anything is possible.

Imagine what Mariner could do with an actual power forward with him. I think Matthew Knies is going to be that guy in another year or two.

Matthews plays too soft, avoids hits and doesn’t like going into battles. Everyone still talks about how it’s hard to score goals in this league. That may have been true in the past, but how many guys got 30+ goals this year in the league. The good teams have their scoring spread out. Man, how bad do the leafs look when a team like Seattle makes a better run than they have in only their 2nd year. Embarrassing. I tell you though, if we start trading away these generational players, we better be getting some good players back. Otherwise this will be just another embarrassing chapter in the Leafs book.

  12. Also, the JT signing at the time was fine and so we’re the other core. Covid really screwed things up when the cap didn’t go up as expected when they got signed. The other factor was almost everyone thought that with this group we would have won a cup by now. So people were saying pay them whatever they want.
Hindsight is always 20/20. The same people that are saying the Tavares signing was the problem, were jumping for joy when he signed. No one gave a rats ass how much they got him for. They new it wasn’t going to be great in the back end, but again everyone thought they would have won by now.
To be honest, I don’t think Matthews heart is ever into it. Just about the money and attention. Where Mariner grew up around this market and takes it personally and absolutely knows what winning would mean here. Surround him and Morgan Reilly with the right people and this team will be fine.

  13. If Matthews doesn`t take a team friendly contract, then trade him. I would say, trade then all because, none of them are a playoff player.

  14. If Marner is traded expect Matthews to possibly want out of Toronto. One of or both Nylander and Morgan Reilly will be the most sought after and no one seems to be talking about Nylander's MNTC that starts July 1st Also Willy and his agent will want $10 million + on his next deal
To get the most value and free up cap money and get great returns then 88 is the one to move and possibly 44

  15. Obviously, you let Samsonov go. Murray is your backup, and you go with the kid Woll. This is not a shot at Samsonov, he played great. But he is injured as much as Murray, and you can't move Murray.

  16. The only things wrong with JT are that he is slowing down and that he is overpaid. He did chip in 80 points over 80 games this past season. When he signed for 7 years it was always understood that the final years of his contract would be ugly but only marginally declining production is nothing to complain about.
If he finishes his career as a middle six left winger with fewer points, so be it. He still brings enough to the rink to hold a roster spot.

  17. Everyone trying to trade Mitch. Smh
    Slow news season boys lol
We can afford our core 4 once we get rid of some salaries like Murray's contract to invest in better options up front to support the key guys
