A mistake was made here. Was it Kyle Dubas agent, Kyle, Shanny? Dubas is someone I’ve always enjoyed listening to.
He’s smart, articulate and often a lot more open than many of his more experienced colleagues. One of the brightest minds in the game. You will not find another like him right now. He can not be replaced. I do not see anyone coming in and doing better. It is not to late to fix this mistake. The leafs have made the playoffs every year under his watch. The team has one of the best records in the league over he last 5 years. It just knocked off Tamp Bay this year and made it to the second round for the first time in over 20 years, Glass half full here. This team is good and getting better yearly. Fix this mess before it gets real ugly. Meet guys, come on, do what's best for the team right now. Kyle and Keefe have done a good job here…..wake up!!!
Guys, love your stuff, but like real talk feedback: the audio on this episode is REALLY bad, Chris is like twice as loud as julian and peaking mic with all sorts of background nonsense. i have to turn down the audio when chris is talking and then turn it back up when julian is. it's testament that i like you guys and have time for your opinions that i am willing to listen through this.
What I wouldn’t give to know the whole backstory here. Was it purely shanahan upset with dubas? Did the board tell shanahan to let him go? Did dubas do his Monday presser knowing he was going to go for more money? And so on.
Treliving would be a good interm GM …be able to retool team in 2 yrs.

Classic Toronto media just throwing around the biggest GM names like Armstrong without any sort of reason lol. He’s got a contract with 3 years left and what makes anyone think he’d be interested in a demotion to take orders from shanahan? It’s not happening.

Dubas did nothing to get over the first round and there is no way this team has the talent to do that. They were lucky to do that this year.

The Leafs amazing core four has cost the organization a coach (Babcock) 2 general managers ( Lou, Kyle) several players from signing or re-signing an the team has only had regular season success and gers curb stomped every year in the playoffs. You sure about all that beleaf??

Friendly reminder that Dummy fired a Stanley Cup and 2x Gold Medal winning coach with 4 years and 25 million dollars left on his contract and replaced him with a guy that lost to David Ayres, Montreal, and Columbus.
And he wanted a pay raise and more autonomy? 🤣 Shanahan stuck his neck out for him and gifted him the dream job and Dummy tried to play games. Praying for his family.

I remember hearing on the 32 thoughts podcast, that Doug Wilson was getting ready to make his return to hockey, but I haven’t heard his name mentioned at all for any of the current openings. I think he’s kinda a sleeper pick for one of the jobs available around the league

Why does Shanahan even need a GM, when all he really wants is a talking head. If the decisions of the Board and/or Shanahan include keeping the core 4 together, what GM would even want to be involved. If you can't move Matthews at his peak value and really retool for the playoffs with the cap space and the additions, then really what is the point of having a GM. Matthews is a self-centred wuss with no fight and no heart. He will never change. You need to get what you can for him NOW, he isn't worth $14 million and his attitude hurts the team. Sign Ryan O'Reilly to two years on the savings of moving Matthews, promote him to Captain, demote JT to Assistant Captain and FIRE KEEFE, he has been out coached for five playoff series.
I think it was pretty shitty for Kyle Dubas to use his family publicly to leverage /weaponize contract negotiations hence the new contract terms on Thursday but obviously Julian/CJ selectively leave that part out because they have a certain narrative to play out for their friends at the Athletic & Kyle.

Brad treliving seems like a great guy to come in and replace dubas. Or Carolina’s assistant gm Mabye
doug armstrong has an out clause in his contract for taking a job with certain teams. can leave st. louis on his own volition.
Treliving if they hire him is going to be the biggest mistake, he ruined Calgary. He will ruin toronto and get fleeced, horrible mistake.

Chris’s question to Dubas and the way he framed it, got Dubas fired. It will forever be the question that led to the doubt Shanahan got.
I think Leafs will trade Nylander cuz he didnt go to sweden and play there.

I'm not sure the Dubas outlash is right. Shanny spoke well about Dubas' end of year presser. To me, if Dubas answered CJ's question with yes I want to be Maple Leafs GM. then followed with the home bit about why he's unable to say yes or no right now, I think he'd be GM. I think that exaxt moment is really what made Shanny take those steps back
Treviling is the gag prize. Calgary was mediocre at best under him. He is a clear downgrade from Dubas. The Leafs as an organization need to think way bigger than just plugging in a gm with "experience". Experience is nothing if you don't produce quality. Would rather another wiz kid over mediocre "experience".
Kyle got greedy and lost his job.
