Should the Maple Leafs look in-house for their next GM?
With the Calgary Flames staying in-house for the next GM, should the Maple Leafs do the same or is it time to look externally? Cheryl Pounder gives her take.

Shanahan will have to step in as acting GM. In one month, we have the NHL Draft, 10 Leaf UFA's are free to negotiate with other teams, Key contract dates for Mitch and Auston, plus a decision about Sheldon's future has to be made.
Friendly reminder that Dummy fired a Stanley Cup and 2x Gold Medal winning coach with 4 years and 25 million dollars left on his contract and replaced him with a guy that lost to David Ayres, Montreal, and Columbus.
It doesn't matter who the next GM is they won't have full autonomy to do what is necessary to have success in the playoffs. Success in the playoffs is the opposite of what the MLSE and the Shanaplan are trying to accomplish, the proof is in the pudding unfortunately. Until Shanny is fired and MLSE gives full autonomy to a GM, no one good at GM will ever want to work in Toronto. As the saying goes; Accountability, Integrity, Culture start at the very top of an organization. The Leafs have None of these things with Shanny and MLSE at the helm so how would it ever be possible for those things to trickle down through the GM to the coach and players, It'd be an impossible task for anyone and nobody "experienced" at the GM position is going to put their reputations on the line like Dubas did for the last 9 years because none of them want to get thrown under the bus by Shanny like the entire world just witnessed him to do Dubas. No one should be dragging Dubas through the mud without Shanny drowning in the mud, Shannys gotta go.
If the leafs hire Wickenhizer or whatever her name is for a GM job, there is zero incentive to be a fan, support or even cheer for this team anymore. She is NOT capable of running an NHL franchise just because she has certain body parts. The leafs would be an even bigger laughing stock of the league than they already are. In a way, I kind of hope they hire her just to see the trainwreck in slow motion.
