Caufield has said all the right things publicly BUT, IMHO if his # 1priority was to stay in MTL he would have signed already (à la Tyler Toffoli). Hope I'm wrong. If I'm right – Hughes should consider trading Him to AZ for Clayton Keller. AFTER Chicago broke their bank on Kane and Toews they did NOT win a single playoff ROUND…..not 1 round!

Caufield is who made me pick the Habs as my favorite team as a new hockey fan back in 2020, so If he signs elsewhere I will be devastated.. but until he officially goes elsewhere I’m not worried!

I have talked about it many times the system the nhl uses for FA's and contracts is abysmal and w/o writing a book the FANS are NEVER considered …good job Bettman../not.The ENTIRE system revolves around greed or getting the msot money possible which undermines everything the fans the draft system the ability to keep players you drafted handcuffing teams salary cap there is NOTHING positive for the sport with the current systems.
I always hear about the cap going up well what if it doesn't would ANY agent put that in the contract…/nope not a chance in hell so that type of argument SHOULD be exhumed forever.
Let's look at the BIG picture and not just the now or near future.The goal is the cup and you need some cap room to continue signing prospects as they get better AND to keep the team together.
My point is where will Cole be 3 years from now or when the contract expires and they are just coming around as a contender then can't even resign him no matter what?
