The 2023 NBA offseason is well underway for the Dallas Mavericks, who have some serious work to do in order to get back to the Western Conference Finals like the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers. Kyrie Irving headlines the show, with CONFLICTING reports: Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report says Kyrie and the Mavs have a handshake agreement on a contract extension, while Brian Windhorst via ESPN says the L.A. Lakers could be planning a Kyrie Irving pursuit in 2023 NBA Free Agency after D’Angelo Russell’s playoff struggles.

DeAndre Ayton trade rumors are continuing to heat up with the Mavs mentioned as one of the top potential destinations for the disgruntled Phoenix Suns big man. However, Marc Stein via his substack says Ayton is not at the top of Mavericks GM Nico Harrison’s list of Mavs trade targets. Alex Caruso would be someone that Luka Doncic and the Mavs would welcome, but would Mark Cuban be willing to part with Jaden Hardy in order to acquire Caruso?

I hear they had a handshake deal before the trade [with the Brooklyn Nets], And Kyrie wouldn’t have said yes to anything less than the max. “I hear he’s going back to Dallas on a 3+1 [a player option on the fourth year]. It would take a little bit of maneuvering, and Kyrie [Irving] would probably have to not take the max, or [the Lakers] would have to work on something with Dallas, but they can get there. They can keep [Austin] Reeves and get Kyrie. The Mavericks have more chips on the table. They’re still holding what they invested to get him. … If Kyrie says, ‘Hey, I’m going to the Lakers, and I’ll go the Lakers for X, and you can trade me and get something back,’ I think if the Mavericks’ backs are put up against the wall, [they] would probably have to cooperate.

Zach Edey demonstrated significant agility at the NBA combine so he needs to be at the top of our draft list but given how unpopular he is I would trade down and get both Lively and Edey
Kyrie for Reeves/Hachimura/Vanderbilt/Picks
Naz Reid/Jerami Grant/Hachimura/Reeves/Luka sounds very interesting!
Plus Maxi/Vanderbilt/Green/Hardy from the bench!
Naz Reid is maybe the most underrated player out there, if he was at the starting lineup this guy
was killing AD/Adebayo and Looney for example! Think about the game against the Mavs too, Wood had no chance!
Reeves is the next one, for me he can bring highly more impact then THJ!
Jerami Grant always good for 20/5 , very good defense and athletic!
Hachimura the same, he was good at a chaos team in WSH and good from the second unit in LA., No.9 Pick and still young!
All of them are good cutting players what Luka is needing and also defense will be 100% better with this guys.
Maybe you can get also OG for Bertans/McGee/10.Pick!
Or Jonas would be nice too!

I’m in on Caruso but not for Hardy, Hardy is almost untouchable for me right now I think he has the upside for way more than 15 I see him a potential star and can pair up with Luka long term since Kyrie is getting towards the end of his career

The Mavericks should look to trade for Isaiah Hartenstein, Omer Yurtseven, Goga Bitadze or Marko Simonovic.
I'd throw in Bullock instead of Green and then I'd do it if I couldn't get a real defensive difference in Miles Turner.
Green and Bullock are now there best defenders. But Bullock starts every season horrible on Offense(Worse than that actually) and Green is Young and only getting better. Mavs need + Defenders to surround Luka and Kyrie at the 3 to 5 positions. That's the only way they will have a legit shot at a title. Losing arguably your best defender and only getting a solid Defender at 5 back with little left to fill the holes probably isn't the best answer.
In fact I'd look hard at Kyries age and realize if they do a Win now situation(to presumably keep Luka) but in 3 years when his contract is up. you also have to be a team that Luka feels good about going forward. Can't be a team about to get real old real quick(and no doubt Bullock will be a shadow of his former self etc).
Bullock, THJ, McGee(who actually played decent their) and the 10th pick(they probably trade that for a center). Gives them the much needed depth they lost getting Durant. So for the next two years they will be serious contenders. Mavs will need at least another season and probably two if indeed they make the right moves to get into serious contention.
Green, Hardy, Luka are young players. Ayton is young and could be apart of the future(though he needs to improve).

The Mavericks should look to trade back in the draft to draft Tosan Evbuomwan, Oso Ighodaro, Zvonimir Ivisic, Malcolm Cazalon, Efe Abogidi, Colin Castleton, or Armel Traore.

For this to really work Luka needs to get better at defense and specially on catch and shoot. I've notice that's one of Lukas weaknesses and to play with Kyrie the offense needs to work on a faster flow. I've seen how Miami work just as Dallas did last year x… one superstar with shooters around and that ball never stop moving. Caltics defenders are dumbfounded. The only difference in FG% and 3pts% + the defense 😂😂😂😂😂
