Can The Islanders Still Compete?

The New York Islanders overexceeded expectations massively in the 2020 and 2021 seasons. As a result of that, expectations were adjusted to the perception that they are one of the NHL’s top teams, which they’ve failed to live up to over the past two seasons. With the team now led by players such as Bo Horvat, Ilya Sorokin, and Mathew Barzal, we look into the New York Islanders and whether they’re still capable of being one of the top teams in the NHL over the coming years.

  1. problem with horvat is a lot of his goals in vancouver came from powerplays with him stationed infront of the net, which is Lee's spot on the islanders. the islanders kept putting horvat out on the boards on the powerplays which is part of the reason his scoring stopped
also to add: they just signed this years OHL mvp Matt Maggio to an ELC; i am excited to watch him and dufour

  2. Here's what I think: This team is currently ride or die on Horvat/Barzal. If they click and do great, woo! They might win a cup. If they don't? The next 8 or so years as a fan are gonna be miserable, in the sense that they'll be too bad to make the playoffs but too good to tank, not that Lou believes in rebuilds anyway. They looked very promising in February before Barzal got injured; their pp was unreal if I remember correctly. I, along with a lot of other fans, are gonna be watching them very closely the first couple of months of next season
