Should hit the floor with some extensions. Will be curious to see if Yzerman does anything with this weaker FA class.
$30 mil in cap space is pretty sweet, plus we don’t have any big extensions due this year. Would love to see Stevie make a big splash, but I could get much understand if he didn’t want to, knowing he’ll have to sign guys like Raymond and Seider soon.
Either way, having that flexibility is very cool.
Vancouver’s cap situation makes no sense to me. That team isn’t nearly good enough to be in that much cap hell. OEL making $7.26 million and Tyler Myers making $6 mil really handcuffs their defense.
Looking at the players we should resign, I imagine that Suter, Oesterle or Lindstrom (not both), and maybe Veleno all get deals. This would leave 2 forwards and 2 defensemen to sign in FA. I think for defense, a combination of Edvinsson/Johansson/Wallinder will fill the two spots on D. For forwards, I think Yzerman fills the two spots through cheaper FA signings, like he did last year.
Getting contract extensions should be Seider, Raymond, and Berggren. I don’t know if Kubalik and Perron would get extensions, I think we wait to see how our younger players are doing before extending them.
Edit: I still think that Debrincat is the big name player that Yzerman should target in FA. I’ve talked about it before in this sub
No reason for Yzerman not to go out and get some true impact players. He has the assets and cap room. Go be bold.
Imagine being in the conference finals, have like no important players to sign besides the captain Jordan Staal, and still be under the cap floor. They will need a goalie, but basically Carolina has free range to just get so much better this offseason.
I just can’t believe how incredibly clueless Vancouver is. Their fans don’t deserve that.
