“You have a great fan base, but I also do know it’s a tough market over there,” Niederreiter said. “A lot of free agents don’t really want to go there because they don’t really know what it’s all about. When you go there, you see the hotel and you see the arena. That’s all you see. Sometimes as the visiting team it’s unfair to judge the city. The fan base is fantastic. They take care of the players very well. It’s a lot better than a lot of people think.”

Another article to add to the list of “Winnipeg isn’t actually so bad” pieces. Thanks Nino!

“Give me a chance, I’ll surprise you” is my pickup line… It doesn’t work.

Ive said this before and Ill say it again, top priority players will choose winnipeg last unless we become a contender again. Location has no business when it comes to a player potentially winning a cup and chasing for one they dont have

Canadian cities in general have a tough sell to potential hockey players. One major thing is the taxes, and second is the culture of those cities (night life in Canada is as great as American cities). Imagine being a 22 year old with millions. Would you rather be in Miami or Winnipeg. Or Vegas compared to Ottawa, etc.

Takeaway: Chipman needs to develop the few blocks between Fairmont and the arena into a vibrant metropolis.
