  1. Dubas should have been fired last year to give the new gm time to make decisions on these players and their contracts

  2. The problem is that, when they refer to "the core", it's only the forwards. They don't have a goalie, or a d-man included in that group. You can't build a team like that. It's a team sport.

  3. So basically there is no reason to watch or support the leafs because they don’t care about Winning

  4. The owners are not serious about a cup for Toronto ..all they care is they have the core 4 so they can use them commercially to push their products and services.they have no intention of building a contender ..it is clear as day now.screw the leafs owners boycott their services make them pay where it hurts let’s go all bud light on their butts

  5. I think that if Dubas had not brought John Travares to Toronto, and found two solid two way forwards instead for $5.5 million each, this might have worked.

  6. Everyone in the organization benefits from the luster of belonging to the greatest hockey team in history. They're all Gods – until they're not and have to be run out of town.

  7. Matthews is walking. Don’t be fooled. Don’t listen to his words. Watch his non-verbal. Think it through – he is leaving. Trade him NOW.

  8. by who?. this is the sort of thinking that will get them nowhere. how do you know. Everything should always be on the table.

  9. MLSE makes more money having sellable names on their roster than they would having blue-collar players who could compete in the playoffs. After the deadline moves, and after is presser comments, seems like Dubas was understanding what changes needed to be made, and the board wouldn’t let him. For a hard-nosed player, Shanahan has really turned into quite the corporate boot licker.

  10. And so the cursed Ballard black fart cloud once more hangs over the Leafs…sigh It had to happen kids.
Now, if you'll excuse me I have to go and cry in my woman's soothing luxurious beaver muff…keep em guessing fellas, "is he crying or sniffing…hmmmm…I'll give him exactly two hours before I tell him to stop…or not"

Whew! Chicks have weird thoughts bros!!
    Jack ~'()'~

  11. I think at this point you might as well get rid of Shany and Keefe and just start fresh with new management.

  12. They don’t stand up for their teammates or themselves. How they could keep anyone who takes punches to the face without zero punch back is beyond belief. The core is built to win in the regular season in Switzerland, not the NHL playoffs.

  13. Friggan move on! They clearly can’t get the job done. Get rid of marner, maybe nylander and get what you can! Their stock is high right now. You cannot trade matthews unless he says he doesn’t want to stay. You cannot risk losing a top Center like him for nothing!!

  14. The Toronto Maple Leaf's are like Stan Mikita's Chicago Blackhawks, full of talent didn't play as a team and only won one Stanley cup. You build a team from the back end forward.

  15. Remember last episode when one of the guys mentioned the possibility of someone getting the PK Subban treament? We are not taking calls, then a week later a trade is made. Maybe this is Shanny doing that to the Core Four. We'll try to make it work, even though that plan might be unrealistic. If the Leafs want to get full-value for these guys – whoever they move – you don't want to give other teams the impression that Player X or Player Y or Player Z are going elsewhere before any convos happen. If you are Shanny, you hang onto whatever leverage you have in this situation.

  16. Steve you at the end of there playoffs you want change some one has to go . And you have gone a 360 now come on

  17. Matthews and Nylander aren't signing before July 1. Trading them doesn't guarantee success.
Whats the bigger gamble for a new gm? Trade one of the top forwards and pray it works out, or hold onto them with a chance of re-signing them. This is incredibly difficult for a new gm coming in.
The safest option is change nothing, at least in the short term

  18. I would immediately goto Matthews agent, 4×12.7 (prior to July 1) yes or no… if no, you call up the Winnipeg Jets and say… I gotta trade for ya, "Hart for Vezina + Kyle Connor"… and if they don't go for it, next offer is Matthews <=> (Hellebyuck + Adam Lowry + 1st round pick). Lowry is a great playoff guy, and he can fight. Nobody on the Leafs ever fights back. Matthew Tchukuk (Chucky) Marner's former teammate was literally punching him in the face, nobody "got even" with a fight/reset with Chucky… what the heck? Helle seemed like he was completely lost/miffed by how their team was in his season-ending locker cleanout presser. Jets & Leafs are both in precarious positions, maybe they help another Canadian team (not in the same division) out????

  19. If they kept O'Reilly, Schenn, Acciari and Lafferty it would make sense but we're back to the soft team prior to these additions if they lose them, a bunch of smurfs…

  20. Dump Mathews, Marner, and Travares!!! Keep Willy!!! Dump Caoch Keefe!!! Give the team approx 32 million dollars of salary cap to pickup some quality players that have the drive and desire to want to win a cup!!

  21. Y'all gotta be a little reasonable…if the panthers win tonight it will literally be 3 straight years that the leafs lost to an eventual stanley cup finals participant…they didnt just lose to any scrub team they lost to one of the teams…and plus after a couple of weeks digesting the loss we can actually see that there are a lot of very good players who have waited a long ass time before even doing something worth while in the playoffs…the leafs core maybe are just one of those guys…but seriously though keefe needs to go…

  22. This is awesome news. That means I'm guaranteed to get to laugh at "leafs nation", and Dingleberry next year too, on "Watch the Leafs Blow A** in the Playoffs with Steve Dingleberry".

Same time, same place, Steve. See you then, buddy!

  23. The “core four” ain’t the fabulous four, why the need reassure them after every single short coming?

In early season Keefe said “our best players weren’t our best players tonight”
    Marner immediately proceeds to complain
    through media (essentially
threatens the coaches job security) the coach basically apologizes through media and then
the team is forced to follow the beat of the softies again.
    Zero bite…

  24. Marner and Tavares are set with their contracts. Mathews and Nylander are up this July for big paydays. Mathews should be in the 13 mill category which is about 15% of the Cap. Nylander’s going to want 8.5-9.5? So that’s about a $5 mill increase to the Cap, so where’s that money coming from? Muzzin? Leafs have “7” pending UFA’s this coming season 23/24. Acciari, Bunting, Kampf, Kerfoot, O’Reilly, Aston-Reese, Simmons. The Cap isn’t going up that much. Simmons is likely done, maybe they’ll wave by to Bunting. Kerfoot is to valuable to me as he can move up and down the lineup. O’Reilly will be a big cheque. Kampf is a good 4th line Center with speed. Lots of decisions.

  25. William Nylander an Austin Mathews will leave because they will not be happy with what they are offered for the contract extensions. JT is solid for 2 seasons because of his no move clause and same with Marner after July 1st. I think I understand trading 1 or 2 of the core 4 to make Cap space for 2 or 3 D-men. They need to solidify the back end.
