This Was Never Supposed To Happen To The NHL.

The Florida Panthers beat the Carolina Hurricanes in game 4 to complete the sweep and advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. Matthew Tkachuk had another ‘I’m him” moments by scoring the game winner & continuing his conn smythe campaign. This was never supposed to happen. Or…. was it? In this video, we take a deep dive into the mentality that helped shape this team all the way back in June of 2022 when they hired Paul Maurice.

  1. Tkachuk came to Florida as the living embodiment of the hockey style Paul Maurice was looking for

  2. seems like the las vegas knights have been doing the same, im excited on how its gonna go down

  3. Are you drunk they finish in the top of the league, they were favorites this years, they had the best team on papers… people only focus on the standings. In hockey you only start to play around january and if you perform good enough u will make the playoff guarantee. Many teams proved it before. Panthers just really started very late and were actually lucky to make it but as soon not a surprise they were suppose to be performing like that

  4. I have up on these guys like
12 years ago. I’m happy for them and the fans that stayed on.

  5. I mean… the truth is, it's the outcome of lots of lucky coin flips in their favor, and bobrovsky.

  6. Another stupid video title, avs literally did what Tha cats are doing. Good luck to the cats tho

  7. When they tied Boston with little time left on swayman… they looked they're gonna do this,no quit in this group💪🔥🏒

  8. I'm stunned at how much credit the Panthers do not get. Just because they just barely made the playoffs doesn't mean that they're a bad team. They were just tested by three tremendously good teams and they won. How much evidence do you want? Christ. They are hungry. That's what matters in the playoffs.

  9. I was 8 the Panthers went up against the Avs in the 1996 Finals. That series is what turned me into not just an Avs fan, but a hocky fan. In many ways, I owe Florida just as much of a debt for the hocky fan I'd become as my beloved Avs. I'll be rooting for Florida all the way until the end.

  10. It's all BS… they should have been taken out by the Bruins and that would have been the end of story for them this year. Bruins chocked and they got lucky… which carried momentum for them. The Bruins would have easily moved forward, swept the finals and taken the cup. It's all just an alternate universe based on the Bruins choking and luck.

  11. What if the BUFFALO FREAKIN SABRES didn’t lose one game on an illegal soccer kick goal towards the end of the season and took that final playoff spot?

  12. As a bolt fan I am happy for the panther fans, the real fans are some seriously chill and knowledgeable fans around. Come on original 8 fans tell me Florida isn't a hockey state.

  13. Hurricanes play a grueling forechecking style of hockey for all 82 games. But they continued to play it that way injured in the playoffs. That team is bought into Rod's system but they weren't flexible for the playoffs. The net battles to get to the slot made all the difference for the Panthers. Hope they win the cup because Vegas is going to be tough

  14. From Calgary; I think its awesome for several reasons. First being that Tkachuk is a class act. He’s a total through back, all heart, and smart. Calgary made this same magical run in 2004, and I think for the same reasons. Heart, skill, goaltending, luck, in that order; They played a team game. I don’t want to get into politics, but I do think the world, including hockey, has been turned upside down by awful people. Florida has been a singular bright light in all that. I also think Bennett was a great draft choice, somehow didn’t pan out here, but I don’t think that was him. Hockey isn’t just about getting all the great talent, and then letting it rip. Its team, starting behind the bench. I hate teams tanking for a draft pick so they can just basically buy talent? You build a team. Harder but IMO the only way to succeed. Go Panthers.

  15. The canes didn't wanna play another quadrupole OT just to lose again. Lol

  16. On the surface at least, it's crazy how many parallels there are between the 2021 Habs underdog run so far and team in general (especially Bob & Price).

They both had a REALLY similar underwhelming season and path through the playoffs (SO FAR! ;); kind of insane!
Not only in terms of being the underdog after a bad season, by beating a opponents that were expected to win, but also the key out of this world goaltending (Bob and Price) and perfect strategy/team play single unit physical playoff hockey. BIG disciplined DEF core who makes players pay every single time they enter their zone, etc. etc.

    BUT!
That's where the comparison ends imho. Because this team has WAY MORE talented players overall and depth.
It's also where it ends in terms of opposition. The Vegas team that the Habs destroyed were quite weaker compared to what they are this year (right?), and the Bolts weren't even CLOSE this year to what powerhouse they used to be 2 years ago.

Imho, if the Bolts were like their old 2021 self, they would be the strongest and most talented team this year, and would probably be winning the cup against ANY of this year's playoff teams.

But while Vegas isn't as good as the 2021's Bolts, it's still going to be a challenge to beat them. Not only were the Habs completely outclassed by the bolts at the finals, but they were out of juice, too injured to really put a fight (it ended the career of quite a few players… Respect eh).
Here, it's really not the case. None of them outclass the other and I expect an extremely hard fought battle of attrition for the cup this year!

What's really interesting (to me at least) is how similar Knights and Panthers are overall. They both grind their opponents, both are hard working and physical, both have a red hot goaltender (although Bob is at another level obviously, and is even more central to the team's success). Both are disciplined and derive much of their success to how well they play as a team, how much confidence they have on their system and general strat.
They have way more in common than any other matchup in recent memory where an underdog team got to the finals by doing what everyone saw as "impossible" (aka "Cinderella" team or wtv as some people say; although those terms kind of undermine how good any team needs to be and how much those players sacrifice on the ice to be where they are! You know, the kind of stuff teams like Toronto are renowned to be lacking entirely lol :P).

I definitely see Bob stealing one or two low scoring games. And if he does, Florida will get the cup imho 😀 Long time Panthers fans who had to suffer A LOT during the past 2 decades would ABSOLUTELY deserve a cup; that's for sure lol. And I'd REALLY be happy for them!
If it's Vegas, good for them too.

  17. lmfao dump and chase has been a staple of hockey since it started. Loser nerds had to use analytics so they're relevant in hockey. Best analytic team beat. Learn hockey its not a soft sport. You hit more and play physical you win. Bob is a 10 million dollar goalie for a reason lmao look back at his columbus years. People need to educate themselves

  18. Great video… Some teams are really built for playoffs like the blues and the kings that won the cup. Some players like edmunston with the blues and habs have shown their playstyles in playoff is insanely good. Another good example is marc staal. These two might be "ok" in the season but completely next level in playoff style hockey.
