Button not buying Benn’s excuse, says he’s lucky he didn’t get a longer suspension
After the NHL Department of Player Safety handed Jamie Benn two games for cross-checking Mark Stone in Game 3, Craig Button joins Jay Onrait to discuss whether they got the suspension right.
I like violence in sports. I like hitting, I like fighting, donât take it out of the game, but this crapâŚneeds to go. Benn and Stone are both very good players, and I hate to see good players get suspended, but enforce this shit harder. Make this kind of thing a 10 game suspension that carries over into the next season. This was ruthless, and cowardly, no respect for Benn on the play, and his inability to own it in the press conference and try to belittle a reporter, garbage play, garbage response, garbage captainâŚgreat player⌠but garbage. He should have watched the replay before throwing out that excuse. Literally everyone watched him stand there for a good second or two and purposefully shove his stick down towards Stone.
He started sort of ok, with talking about how emotions got out of control, but then just took a hard turn with that âexplanationâ. Nobody is going to buy that unless they refuse to watch the replay thatâs been played over and over again everywhere and just go on his word and his word alone.

After watching the call's in the last minute of the Canes vs Panther series, and the Clown Show Circus Vegas has been benfiting from….Can anyone deny the NHL is a BUSH LEAGUE CIRCUS with less credibility than WWE Wrestling?
Donât buy his excuse. Brutal play yet not as bad as what pietrangelo did and his excuse was worse. He said âdid you guys see what has been going on in this series? Translation/ yeah I did it on purpose because I was being targeted by the oilersâŚ.he should have got more than bunting who got 3 for an elbow. No consistency. Maybe instead of hiring ex players with head trauma hire people who can think clearly.
Just a egregious as the slash Pietrangelo put on Leon, 3 times the punishment. The league is so inconsistent it makes a mockery of itself. Only reason Benn didn't get just one is that this series is 3-0 and basically over. Parros is so scared about outcome effects that he can't make decisions based on player safety, which is his whole job. The man needs to be replaced by someone with the guts to actually do his job regardless of circumstance.
