KELLER HOPES, DVORSKY PROFILE, & BENN’S DOWNFALL – Winged Wheel Podcast – May 25th, 2023

As the situation in Arizona unfolds, we take a look at a potential opportunity for Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings amidst the Coyotes’ conundrum.

Tune in as we open by discussing whether Clayton Keller might be available via trade, which of Detroit’s draft picks & prospects would be worth moving for him (including a yes or no on Kasper, Edvinsson, Mazur, Seider, Raymond, & others), if Nick Schmaltz or Lawson Crouse are also worth vying for, & how Keller would fit into Detroit’s top 6 alongside the like of Larkin, Raymond, Berggren, & future forwards (3:52).

Next, we’re joined by Dimitri Filipovic of Sportsnet to discuss the 2022/2023 season in Hockeytown, what’s next for the Yzerplan, what has to come of Seider, Raymond, Walman, and Yzerman’s offseason moves, & more. Also, a look at the NHL playoffs as Tkachuk & Bobrovsky continue to carry the Florida Panthers, and Jack Eichel rolls on with the Vegas Golden Knights (20:10).

As our 2023 NHL Draft Prospect Profile series continues, we evaluate Dalibor Dvorsky and seek to decide whether his offensive ceiling is worth taking him over the likes of Ryan Leonard, Oliver Moore, Gabe Perreault, Zach Benson, or his other peers (41:55).

Finally, we cover NHL news including Jamie Benn’s suspension after his cross-check on Mark Stone & whether a bigger increase in the NHL’s salary cap is beneficial for the Detroit Red Wings (52:50) before we take your questions during Overtime (1:05:45) – enjoy!

  1. Bunting's play scored him a three game vacation. Benn deserved more. Two games is nonsense.

As for the Stars… so long as they have Benn, and embrace this culture of being a shitheel, I couldn't fathom adopting them as a playoff bandwagon team.

  2. Idk why someone doubt Dvorsky ceeling, imo he could be Drai type of player at best,he is 9/10 in shooting and playmaking, he has really good skating but lacks acceleration and top speed is average but man he has second best shot after Bedard, and best one timer ,yeah guys like Moore and Leonard are super fun to watch but Dvorsky is just so much beetter imo he is no brainer on 6 and if you doubt him on 9 its just unfair getting him at 9

  3. I wouldn't trade Kasper straight up for a soft ass Keller. Brad's trade proposals are ridiculous. I'll keep my picks and top prospects.

  4. Detroit needs more right-handed forwards and defensman.
Forwards: Will Smith, Ryan Leonard, Matthew Wood, Nate Danielson, Brayden Yager, Calum Ritchie, Kasper Halttunen
Defensemen: David Reinbacher, Axel Sandin Pellikka, Tom Willander, and Lukas Dragicevic. Yzerman could look to draft for need, especially at picks 17, 41,42, and 43.

  5. Why would we include our best prospects or most valuable picks in trades? Makes no sense unless it's for legit superstar. You guys have said it yourself that there is a chance that Michkov starts falling in the Draft. Imagine if we gave up Michkov, Kasper, Wallinder and multiple 1sts for Keller and Schmaltz😹That is ridiculous.

Or would it be smarter to keep all these assets and do what Carolina did last offseason? They acquired Pacioretty and Burns for pretty much nothing. Yzerman should make trades with Cap strapped teams. Not with teams that have all the leverage.

Edvinsson/Kasper/Ryan Leonard 9th ovr? First 3y ELC and then a possible 8 year contract. Or 5 years of Keller and 3 years of Schmaltz when Red Wings are not even Cup contenders?

  6. How good/bad is this proposal?

    To DET: Keller, Schmaltz, Crouse

    To ARI: Veleno, Zadina, Berggren, Albert Johansson, William Wallinder, #17, 42, 43 in 2023, Boston's 2024 1st.

  7. Would be fine with Dvorksy, Moore, or Leonard at 9. Don't think Keller is worth it we have to sell everything Yzerman has acquired over the past four years.
