Costmar was a 7th rounder in the 2019 Draft, now a 21-year old Centre who played for Linkopings HC this season in the SweHL, posting 2 goals and 7 assists in 52 games.

Lockhart was a 6th rounder in the 2021 Draft, now a 20-year old Centre who played for the Peterborough Petes this season in the OHL, posting 29 goals and 50 assists in 66 games.

If Ottawa doesn’t sign Rogers, and they most likely won’t because he hasn’t developed at a rate close to what a Second round pick should, he’d be an interesting project. RHD at 6’4”, really good skating and strong skating mechanics. Was touted as a possible Two-way defenseman, but his offensive game completely stagnated. He plays a a non-flashy, physical game and has good defensive tendencies with smart use of his reach and gap control.

He may never be anything, but with the traits and skillset he has it’s clear why the Sens took a huge gamble and picked him up in the Second round. If he could develop into a strongly reliable, defensive
minded bottom pairing D, it’d be a win for us. It’s worth the gamble if the Sens don’t sign him.

They were always going to be longshots, but really doubt either gets signed.

This is how we added Johansson and Aman last year, right? If we don’t sign our two draft picks, but sign someone else’s that have better trajectories as prospects.. I’d take that!

With how many open contract slots I wouldn’t be surprised to see Lockhart get an ELC. He’s undersized, but has produced quite well, even in a few games where he had to play D

I remember when Costmar looked moderately relevant during the WJC and the hype train left the station at 100mph here touting him as the 3C of the future.

Kinda bummed he looks to be nothing and not even get a chance in Abby but oh well.

Lockhart isn’t scoring enough as a 20year old in junior to warrant a contract
