The New York Rangers stayed alive in the Eastern Conference First Round with a 5-2 win against the New Jersey Devils in Game 6 at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.

Game 7 will be in Newark, New Jersey, on Monday.

Chris Kreider had a goal and two assists, Mika Zibanejad and Vladimir Tarasenko each had a goal and an assist, and Adam Fox had two assists for the Rangers, who are the No. 3 seed from the Metropolitan Division. Igor Shesterkin made 34 saves.

Curtis Lazar and Dawson Mercer scored for the Devils, who are the No. 2 seed from the Metropolitan. Akira Schmid allowed five goals on 29 shots before being replaced in the third period by Vitek Vanecek, who did not face a shot.

Lazar gave the Devils a 1-0 lead at 11:49 of the first period, finishing the rebound of Kevin Bahl’s shot off Shesterkin’s right pad.

Kreider tied it 1-1 at 19:35 when Zibanejad’s one-timer from the left point deflected in off his leg. It was Kreider’s fifth power-play goal of the series and ended an 0-for-14 drought on the man-advantage for New York.

Zibanejad scored his first goal of the series to put New York ahead 2-1 at 10:10 of the second period. Kreider retrieved the puck behind the net and sent a backhand pass to Zibanejad, who scored glove side from the slot.

Tarasenko pushed it to 3-1 at 18:25 with another shot glove side from the slot after Kreider won a puck battle with Michael McLeod.

Barclay Goodrow made it 4-1 at 7:23 of the third period when he batted in the rebound of Jimmy Vesey’s shot on a 2-on-1.

Braden Schneider then scored his first Stanley Cup Playoff goal to extend it 5-1 at 12:28.

Mercer scored a power-play goal at 15:12 for the 5-2 final.

  1. This win for the rangers is great for the rivalry, and it just makes game 7 something to look forward to. (No offense, but I hope that the rangers get destroyed on Monday.)

  2. Good series but 5 on 5 the Devils dominate if they stay out of the box its gonna stay tight for Monday. Gonna be crazy!!!

  3. Devils fan but I like the size of your eyes watching the games. Bigger then hockey pucks!!! 😂😂😂

  4. Honest opinion I know everyone thinks we played lights out but I really need to see more. Kane again looked lost besides a few great shots on net and the breakaway and Panarin can't find the damn net. Igor stood on his head and we did what we needed to do but things need to really tighten up. Anyways LFGRRRR baby!!

  5. First time in my 35 years watching hockey that one team got 4 power plays before the other team got one. The NHL isn't going to let the Rangers lose.

  6. GG. i knew this was going 7. Anybody thought anything less than 6 just don't know this is a rivalry game and pride is definitely on the line always😂 Go devils

  7. Only problem i have watching you is you have no ENTHUSIASM FOR YOUR TEAM!!! LOL😢😢😢 JUST KIDDING. This is the 1st time i seen you and its better than the highlights. Love it. Sports brings people together!!! 😂😂😂😂

  8. lol u can tel the dad is thinking "man my son is so cringe if only he could shut the fuck up while im trying to watch the game"

  9. As a Leafs fan great win by the Rangers. I love the moment where you mentioned the Leafs won. Been a Leafs fan my entire life starting in 1981. Leafs Nation had been waiting 19 years for that first round series win. #OriginalSix
