Bruins Predictions for the Second Half of the Season | Bruins Beat

Evan Marinofsky of Turner Sports is joined by Conor Ryan of Boston Sports Journal. The guys discuss what it’ll be like having the Winter Classic back at Fenway Park in January 2023 and who the Bruins might play. The rest of the episode was all about making predictions for the second half. Evan and Conor made two regular season predictions each, and then predicted the deadline and how far the Bruins will go in the playoffs. No chance any of these are wrong, right?

  1. Sweeney, I doubt, is gonna be able to deal for Miller or Hertyl. If they did, based on pure stats, how does Bergeron remain the top center? In theory, Pasternk, Hertyl, Hall, would be your top line. Maybe not so much with JT Miller. There's second line centers in the league that have out performed Bergeron. And Hall is gonna have a breakout second half? At the age of 30, he's now going to buckle down and be a solid 2 way player? 6 mil for 29 points.

  2. "Conor, what is up." "Evan, doing well. How you doing."

Bet the farm on the B's tonight fellas the vibes are immaculate and the bOYS ARE BACK

  3. how much rope do you give this tuukka comeback tour? its pretty damn frustrated as he is out another week.

  4. David Poulin came her from Philly and loved Boston. I remember him saying we didn't realize how go we had it here.

  5. Unless they do a trade I don't believe they have the cap space to send Rask down for a conditioning stint. Conditioning stints are also a max of 14 days. Which would be a max of 6 games. That lets you put Rask down without him going through waivers. But you also would still have Rask, Ullmark, and Swayman all on the cap at the same time. Plus Rask has a NMC. They can't even do a conditioning stint unless he agrees. Also I highly doubt anyone said Oscar Steen had top six potential before this season (because he had shown none of that. He exploded in Providence this season and rocketed up the depth charts. He wasn't even a foot note before. And Studnicka had both a better camp, and preseason than him. So if you had said Studnicka had top 6 potential that would have made way more sense.). Post Steen coming up and showing something sure. But I highly doubt before. It would have been an insane unjustified take before. As far as the Smith on the third line thing goes. That only makes sense if you bring in a 2nd line center. And you get Haula on the third line too. Because Smith has chemistry with Haula. Smith has no chemistry with Coyle. They tried it last year it didn't work. They tried it this year. It didn't work. The only time Smith has had any success with Coyle was that short period where the second line was Coyle, Haula, Smith. That line is great. Haula and Coyle have chemistry and have had it in the past too. And Smith and Haula have chemistry. The fact that Coyle doesn't have chemistry with Smith kind of got canceled out when that trio was together. And that's a high quality third line. Like potentially the best third line in hockey good third line. To me bringing in guys like Giroux, and Pavelski don't make any sense. They make you better for this moment sure. But they are also old, and in the case of Pavelski especially it took him a year to figure it out in Dallas. If you trade for him and he doesn't get the system right away that's a huge problem. And neither of those guys is a long term solution. Krejci is gone. Bergeron is unhappy and has straight out said he intends to test free agency. Hertl makes the most sense. Because not only does he fill the need right now he's a guy you don't have a problem slotting up into Bergeron's place if you have too come next season. Now this up coming off season has a ton of good free agent centers potentially. That's true. All the guys mentioned as well as Malkin, Kadri, Strome (Rangers) Copp, Stasny, Domi, Trocheck and a handful of guys who are RFA's that teams might not extend qualifying offers too (like say Strome in Chicago, Roslovic in Columbus, Kotkaniemi in Carolina). Unlike last year where there were no centers and replacing Krejci proved pretty much impossible next year has options. But having something in place before that free agency fury would be good. Especially if you are in a position where you might need a 1 and a 2 center. As a note the most salary a team can retain in a trade is 50% so Detroit couldn't retain 4 million of a 5 million dollar hit. 2.5 would be max. If they could find another team to do a 3 way with you could have two teams each retain 50% to bring it down to 1.25 but Detroit wouldn't do that for that sort of package.

  6. It’s obvious Sweeney and Cassidy want to be the least physical team in the nhl who like to be bitch slapped by every team which leads a guy Marchand be the only one to stick up for himself resulting in suspensions. WTF is Smith doing on the top line? When is Sweeney getting fired. When is Cassidy getting fired?
