Michael Finley: Top 5 Dallas Maverick of all time? | Forgotten Player Profiles

Michael Finley quietly was one of the best scorers in the NBA for nearly a decade from the late 90s to the mid 2000s. Throughout his career, FInley went from star, to second option, to role player and even benchwarmer, but throughout it all never complained and just played his role. He was a player who didn’t bring any baggage or drama to teams, and brought buckets to the court each night. His efficiency in his later years began to be a major issue, but during Michael FInley’s prime he was one of the true Forgotten stars of his era .

  1. Finley was probably the unluckiest player in the NBA just behind Elgin Baylor. When Dallas started contending for a chip, they traded him away.

  2. Fun fact! The mavs didn’t match the Steve Nash offer because Mike Bibby cooked him in the playoffs!

  3. Great player for the Mavs during their emergence in the early 2000s. Moved to Dallas around that time and got to see the young Big 3 of Finley, Nash and Dirk. Always wondered what could’ve been if they kept that core together a little bit longer. When Mike ended up with Spurs and Dallas beat them in the 06 playoffs, it felt kind of bitter sweet…just for Dallas to lose to Wade and then he gets his ring the next year 😭😭😭

  4. Love this!!! I'm a 90s kid, so guys like this are some of my favorite players growing up. Finley on the sun's was one of my favorite players to watch.

  5. Would love an episode on the Pacers ABA dynasty of the early to mid ‘70s. So many great players on those teams who are now mostly lost to history, with the exception of George McGinnis, who’s most famous in the NBA for missing a lot of big shots and being the centerpiece of the Alex English trade

  6. Loved Michael Finley coming up. They way he dunked, it’s like he’d freeze mid air then throw it down ferociously.

  7. Finely was def. one of my favorite players to watch going back to the early 2000's. And that I think of it, he may be a top 5 mav of all-time.

    Dirk
    Luka
    Mark Aguirre
    Rolando Blackman
    Finely

I think I have to take him narrowly over Nash, since Nash didn't really have his GREATEST years until he got to Phoenix (Or got back to Phoenix in 04)

Edit: Completely forgot about J Kidd who's earliest pro years were with the Mavs SMH I think I might have to replace Finn with Kidd

  8. If you keep at it, I am sure, you'll 100x your subs in a couple of months. Admittedly I dont know how the youtube algo works, but compared to other NBA channels and quality I dont see why yours should have 500k subs. Your thumbnails are actually also pretty dope, so that helps. I dont know if you know Coach Nik's channel, but he uses famous soundtracks and I think he said, there's a rule for using it, that makes it relatively cheap. Maybe if you check that, you can get to use some classics for the background (I'd use it wisely though, there are some channels out there that use way to loud music and way too much of it). That being said, some subtle lofi beats are always nice.

  9. Cool channel. Just became a subscriber. I have a request: Nick “the Quick” Van Exel. If you can. Thanks!!

  10. He became part of the 2009-2010 Boston Celtics who reached the NBA Finals but because of Doc Rivers, they blew up the 3=2 lead vs the Lakers. Doc should used Finley once Perks was sidelined.

  11. Manual Ram, Class of 1991…Finely and em used to come to the Gus Macker back then in Peoria.

  12. Bob McAdoo, Kevin Johnson, Poppy Jones, David Thomas, Derek Fisher, K.C.Jones, Troy Hudson, Peja Stojakovic, Norm Mixon, Fat Lever, Bonzi Wells, Trevor Ariza,
Benard King… Love the concept and execution! Here’s a few more to consider and keep you busy with your channel, For which is highly recommended and appreciated by the fans!

  13. I like how your videos focus on high-quality people, rather than just high-quality players.

  14. Nice video on a very professional guy. The early 00s Dallas Mavericks reminds me of the mid 00s Phoenix Suns because like the early 00 Mavs teams, the mid 00s Suns teams didn't play mich defense but could definitely outscore you.
