Jordan Staal took a tripping penalty with less than a minute left in a Game 4 and the Panthers scored a game winning buzzer beater to end the series. This video goes more into why I think this was such a big call and costly mistake for the Carolina Hurricanes captain.

Great video once again!
That was a weak call. Gudas holding a defenders stick in the Leafs series was a blatant penalty and they didn't call that one. They seem to be making calls in a way that advances the panthers.
OBVIOUS trip… no question about it.
I have to disagree. There were a lot of factors that decided these series and this call had nothing to do with it. It was over before Game 4 even started.
It’s probably a trip but the irritating bit is on the very same side of the ice Duclair gets away with an egregious and dangerous crosscheck just moments before and there’s no call. After the high hit on Aho in game 3 that wasn’t called two soft penalties on a hook and a slash were called within seconds. If you’re going to call the soft stuff you have to call the obvious infractions too. My canes deserved to lose the series no question about it regardless of the refereeing but to lose after seeing Duclair completely run a guy with no call hurts. Congratulations to the Panthers but in every series there has been insanely inconsistent refereeing and the NHL needs to address the issue
I think the only legitimate complaint about this can be how so much was let go the other direction. Carolina outplayed Florida nearly the entire series, the offensive stats were staggeringly one sided. Yet the PP numbers were even and even favored Florida. That doesn't seem fair. Right before Staal's "well technically that is a trip" … there was technically a massive and for some reason uncalled crosscheck from behind that left Staal slow to get up, nearly in the same spot, missed or uncalled by the same official. This has become a yearly trend with the Hurricanes, who are an outlier to league statistics related to PP's … they simply do not earn the same number calls relative to how they play compared to every other team in the league.
"the refs made a call that would decide the series"
i mean
they were down 3-0 too, its not like that one call is the reason why they lost
I agree the officiating has been terrible this postseason but good call or bad the series was basically over at that point
I thought that the Ref ckoked on that call, I saw the Florida player step on the stick, Stall was punked, abd it cost Carolina, waiting to see if the Ref gets work in the Finals?
Carolina loses every year because of their special teams. PP and PK sucked again
im more concerned about ahos defense there
If you trip someone behind their own goal for an attempt at a turnover it HAS to be called. If the trip goes down, and they capitalize a goal off a turnover that’s when it actually becomes game changing. If you don’t want a penalty called don’t give them something to call it on. If this was done mid ice or behind the Carolina goal it would be one thing, but when you trip someone behind their own goal in an attempt to score off a turnover you’re asking to get a whistle.
That last goal had goaltender interference. Idk how you can have your stick between a goalies legs and not be called interference
Definitely didn't have their whistles away in this game. In the first period they were calling everything.
That’s such an easy call.
The right call too.
"But…but…we totally outplayed them!" 🤣😂🤣 Holy sh*t I just need to take a moment and thank Cane's fans, this is hilarious. Buncha Suga Sean O Malley's in here "yeah I lost but he didn't beat me"😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Стаал проиграл русским в 2008 году! Он помнит об этом всю жизнь! Даже трофеи были изготовлены для него, но он проиграл! Бобровский, Ткачук, Барков — вперёд! Победа будет за нами!
Lets go Panthers!!!!!!!!
So you let the call go just cause you feel bad and you don’t want the refs to decide the game. And no, the rest did not decide the series the shitty play by the Carolina hurricanes decided the series. It’s not the rest fault it’s the fucking lackluster shit play of Carolina that lost it
You're responsible for your stick. Whether it was intended or not is irrelevant. Sucks, but that's the way it goes.
One of the worst teams in NHL history make their first Stanley Cup run since 96 and all of a sudden everyone is a Panthers fan 😂😂😂
I think the game has 1 too many refs . With video replay u don’t need them making calls 200 feet away . Squinting at that . This happens too much in the nhl . I really wanted OT . Don’t care who wins just wanted a great game and feel robbed again . Not just this game.
Sorry Carolina didn't show up….our team best players showed up but didn't play….Panthers deserve it more than us Hurricanes……
Im new to hockey and a panthers fan but to me it seemed like a weak tripping call. Do most people agree or should it have been called?
