Habs Can’t Afford to Pass on Superstar Michkov if He’s Available

@habsfantv_ host Alex says the Montreal Canadiens need to select Matvei Michkov at #5 in if he is still available in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

  1. Meh, Dalibor Dvorsky scored 1 less point than Michkov at the 2022 Hlinka playing for a far weaker team. Only because Michkov scored 3 late points in a final game blowout. Including an empty netter. Dvorsky is 6 months younger, 4" taller, 40 pounds heavier, plays centre, is defensively responsible, speaks immaculate English (his third language). He left home to play hockey in a different country when he was NINE years old 😮 . Michkov apparently won't be mature enough to do that until he's 22. You guys are insipid
band wagoneers incapable of original thought.

  2. I'd be angry if they pass on him and he comes over and dominate… I'm kinda tired of the habs always going with the weird picks… take the guy have some courage with your pick for a change… like they did with caufield

  3. 1:17 let people fuss about it!!! because then 2-4 will be stupid and pass on arguably the second best prospect this year.

  4. Question: Is the Russian 5-7 or 5-10 … If he is under 5-10 I do not want him …. This is a player who is not used to playing the Florida Panthers where they dish out Gudas boarding's and not get penalized. … You cannot have 4 shrimps in the top nine Habs forwards… Caufield …. R.H.P. …. ghalgher … 5.-7 Michkov… … TRADE TROUBLEMAKER CAUFIELD + A PROSPECT FOR FANTILLI.

  5. I wouldn't pass on him
but what makes this different is the war. He could get drafted into the army

  6. Yeah Michkov for sure… I hope they don't repeat the Kotkaniemi instead of Brady Tkachuk thing again

  7. If michkov is still available at 5, then they wld be crazy not to. Dude is going to be elite. Any other talks abt other players is smokescreen, Habs always playing 4d chess… 😉

  8. Everyone who says take Michkov is ignoring the fact that there is massive uncertainty in Russia right now due to Putin and the war. Not to mention, it appears Michkov's father was murdered after he said he wanted his son to get out of his KHL contract. Holy shit! How can you ignore this stuff. Many people in Russia over the last decade have been murdered because they did something Putin didn't like. Michkov lives in a country with a floundering Fascist leader who is desperate to try to hang on to power. Anyone who thinks they know whether Putin will allow the best Russian since Ovechkin to leave to play in the NHL is deluding themselves. No one knows!!! That is why this is such a dilemma. You have the second best player in the draft but he might NEVER be allowed to leave Russia. PLEASE STOP OVERSIMPLIFYING THIS AND PRETENDING THERE IS LITTLE RISK!! It. might be worth the risk, but don't ignore the evidence and pretend it is an easy decision!

  9. Look at his play, nothing impressive beside he is too small, we have too many small and weak forwards.

  10. God this is dumb.. stop dreaming.. Michkov will never be picked by the habs

  11. He's worth it. I'm already upset they probably won't take him but we need to. We can wait. Improve the team and then unleash when he arrives.

  12. Michkov is not a Bedard who is 13 lbs heavier, a center which comes with a defensive positioning responsibility and more. Michkov plays on a rink 13.8 feet wider than a N.A. rink giving more space, doesn't have the footspeed and he is a one-way winger. Michkov's numbers in the KHL are small sample sizes. He is not an Ovechkin, Ovechkin has grit, size, checking, a defensive presence…
With the amount of small players and prospects Montreal has, does he fit their needs? Look at the teams remaining in the playoffs and see how many players they have 5'10" and under.
If he fulfills his KHL contract there is the possibility of him being drafted into the Russian Army at 21 years old. I don't believe he's been cleared by the RIHF to transfer either but he is supposed to attend the NHL draft.
In the KHL, an NHL team who drafts him has little if any control of his development.
I don't believe he is worth the wait or risk in a draft with this depth, nor does he fit the bill in overall roster, Hughes said teams picking after Montreal's 5th pick are still getting potentially high quality players.
As for overall roster, they could trade Caufield and Michkov be the defensive liability. Rule out Farrell and Mesar. RHP is an exception, finishes checks, blocks shots/has a Dzone game and in his small sample size finished on the plus side of +/- and Suzuki's +/- improved without Caufield.
Farrell's game translating to the NHL is questionable.
Montembeault in Europe is proving that goaltending is not the issue in Montreal…it's patience with the young defense and forwards who don't have defensive support to offer…the play in front of the goaltender.

  13. There is no Russian Bedard. He is Michkov and Bedard is Bedard. There will always be room for plenty of great players
