The All Time Best of the St. Louis Blues

This franchise finally winning a Cup definitely changes how one views their history. The future looks bright as well.

  1. I'm going to disagree with you about the 99-00 season. A lot of people didn't really feel like the Blues were on their way to the finals. Sure it's their only Presidents Cup, but the team still didn't feel like they had a good playoff team built. Too flashy and not grindy enough. Doesn't mean we weren't hoping though. The years that stand out as the years that felt like it could be it was the Gretzky year (96 I think) and the year that Elliott and Halak both had under a 2.00 gaa. I think that was 2012 or 2013. They played LA two years in a row. The Steen / Backes / Oshie line just felt like they could do anything that year. So much fun to watch. I really am a fan of Hitchcock style hockey.

  2. Loved Paul Kariya as a Blue. Really liked watching him with Andy Macdonald, who is one of my all time favorite Blues player. Probably behind Geoff Courtnall, Pavol Demitra, David Backes, and Chris Pronger.

  3. There's a decent chance that Brian Sutter would have been the team leader in points had he not had such a short career. Had I gotten to watch him while he was playing he likely would have been my favorite player. He was the Blues coach when I started watching hockey though.

  4. Personally as a Blues fan I get tired of the whole Gretzky connection. He was only here for what 18 games? Yeah he was here but enough is enough

  5. Turgeon should be an all time great. She turned Mediocre players into scorers. Also 2000 Blew. I don't know that I have ever been more disappointed in a season than that one. It was heartbreaking and yes the This organizaiton is never winning the cup came tot he fore front. Lastly. One isn't enough. I want more

  6. Shannon, if The Great One was a Bruin for 6 months you’d damn sure own a Gretzky jersey.

  7. You forgot to mention Keith Tkachuk. Scott Mellanby was also a Blue and Barrett Jackman deserves mention too.

  8. The Gretzky sweater thing I think is because he married a St. Louis girl, and still has a home here. He often attends games and seems to be generally a nice guy and always has kind words to say about St. Louis.

  9. I believe Gretzky resides in St. louis, you can occasionally see him at Cardinals games, so it's not so strange his jersey is still popular. How do you not have Walt on there?

  10. I don't remember the exact stat, but it was something like 25-30 consecutive Stanley Cup champions had at least one former Blue on their roster. From motorcycle accidents, to goals from center ice, to missing an entire draft, I was nearly convinced the Blues truly were cursed. But I got to go to one parade in my life, so I'm happy =)

  11. I think you need to include Ken Hitchcock among the Blues best all-time coaches. Six seasons with winning records each year and a Jack Adams award winner.

  12. As a Blues fan, yes it was the 2000 playoffs that really had a huge impact on our psyche. And, I was at game 7 against the Sharks in 2000 Quarter Finals, and was sitting behind Roman Turek when Nolan scored from center ice. Heartbreaking

  13. Jaques Plante was also a Blue that many dont remember. Same with Shayne Corson. Jim Carrey, Vezina winning goaltender for the Capitals. Patrik Lalime also a notable. Derek Sanderson, Bruins legend, also played a year for the Blues. They also drafted Rod Brindamour and Doug Gilmour. Guy Hebert, Ducks legend, also played there. A huge list of players

  14. Gretzky to the Blues had such promise and it was just so exciting for us blues fans. Loved this series.

  15. Shannon does a great job as always, but 3 things that surprised me a little: 1. Completely disregarded Backes in the Captains department. 2. Completely disregarded Hitchcock in the coaching department. 3. Didn't mention Chris Osgood in as an unknown Blue.

  16. Thank you for showing Allen some respect. He's only a few wins from passing Liut for wins in fewer games played.

It's one issue that makes me almost hate some fellow Blues fans. Even after the Cup win they can't stop hating on him despite his incredible play late last season and this season.

  17. Great Video! Another one to add to the “He was a Blue” list would be Ryan Miller… that experiment didn’t go very well.

St Louis loves some Keith Tkachuk too

  18. After Keenan did what he did… lol
We know Keenan got rid of half of those players in one season, for old, aging veteran former stars, like Glen Anderson.

  19. I agree that Pierre Turgeon deserves more love.
Gretzky was married to a St. Louis native (Janet Jones), and he would have resigned with the Blues (instead of going to the Rangers) if Mike Keenan hadn't been such a complete and utter $(*%&@. A lot of us imagine what it would have been like if the Blues had fired Keenan and gotten Quenneville at that point. We might have had a few Cup rings by now.

  20. Pretty good, Shannon. But no mention of Red Berenson and his 6 goal game? Played parts of 8 years with the Blues and Captain for 2 before being traded to Detroit. He was named the Divisions best player (by peers) his first 3 years in St. Louis. Just has to be at least an honorable mention all time best Blues.
