Did The San Jose Sharks Give Up On Adin Hill Too Early Or Do They Have Bigger Issues?

Did the San Jose Sharks give up on Adin Hill too early? After being traded this offseason for a 4th-round pick to the Vegas Golden Knights, Hill has refound his game. Start by comparing Hill’s statistics when he was with the Arizona Coyotes, Sharks, and Golden Knights. Then revisit the decision Mike Grier had between Kaapo Kahkonen, James Reimer, and Hill last season and how Kahkonen and Reimer’s stats cratered this season. Finally, is this an issue with the Sharks being a bad team, or is their inability to find a long-term goalie (via free agency or the draft) a symptom of a bigger issue?

  1. Bigger issues. Goaltending and goalie development has been their Achilles heel for over a decade

  2. This is the most important draft in this franchise’s history, as far as I’m concerned, the Pacific Division is getting better, need goaltending help, and can’t afford any misses in this draft, the Sharks can’t afford to this rebuild to last for a long, long time, need a impact player for the future.

  3. Player development is the biggest issue in the Sharks organization. Last player to succeed in spite of Sharks management was Timo Meier. The org spends too much energy harping on the weaknesses.

Adin Hill is still Adin Hill. He’s one mediocre game away from being on the brink of collapse.

  4. The Sharks would need the second coming of Hasek in order to make up for their horrible defense

At the same time, sometimes a defense needs their goalie to steal a game from time to time in order to play better with more confidence
